World Snooker Championship Snooker 2005 (PAL) now works with kill HDL after launch set to yes. This game used to have garbled music on the menu and would crash when you tried to start a game. Works perfectly now.

MTX Mototrax works now with mode 3. Despite what several compatibility lists say, it did not work 100% before. At least not for me. It would freeze randomly, but it works like a charm now.

ok, maybe i mist this when i looked in the thread, but with this new patch can just install GOW and GT4 without any other patching? i know that they are dvd9 and to play them with the .5c patch i would have to patch the game and then put it in the hdd, can just do a straight install by pc using winhip and play it without converting these games to dvd5?

Cordy
04-25-2005, 03:58 PM
@rumble_sushi
It doesn't matter what other patches you put, like odeon says it requires the gradiusv patch (unaligned buffer) otherwise it won't work. So you can add the new compatability modes and anything else like that, and it will still work.

that's very strange, just made a new patch with the /N patch and the gradius fix and it works.
That's not at all strange.
The 'Gradius' fix is not Gradius specific, and is one of two main changes, adding more game compatibility to HDL with v0.6b of the patcher.
(the other main change is of course the new DVD9 mode.)

Without the "Gradius" fix there would be no improvement for any DVD5 games.
(Which matches your earlier results.)

Best regards: dlanor

What is interesting me at the moment is "Socom II PAL" unpatched (Previously Incompatible). I've had it working with 5 different combinations of modes out of 20 that I've tried, Problem is,the 5 separate mix of modes that work.... work only once. Some of my personal findings:

Dead To Rights 2 (NTSC) - works fine

Sega Classics Collection (NTSC) - still freezes when selecting VR Racing

Try this mode combo:
YES, NO, YES, YES, NO, YES. with and without memory card, and disc tray open and closed. Believe me it's very hit and miss, Sometimes it will work, and then the next time you reset it, with absolutely no variables changed, what worked before, won't work again.

I'm about 8 hours in and that seems to be the only place it froze up.

The scene is easilly recognizable and doesn't really ruin anything. When she starts beating on the gate, skip the cinema. =)

Also, i've tried multiple combinations with the modes, and none of them fixed the choppy cinemas.

Oh yeah, I still remember that happening. I don't know about MAT1, but on MAT2 the menus only crash if you wait long enough for one of the video demos from the selected game to try to load. If you very quickly move through the menu and pick the game you want before that happens, the game will load and work.

I can tell you that Capcom VS SNK 2 works for me now.

Does it work 100% with no problems? I just installed it using WinHIIP 1.7 and it the game still has no BGM. It was the same with the original HDLoader. Did you enable any new modes?

There is a new strategy RPG out called Stella Deus. It's similar to say Final Fantasy Tactics, Disgaea, or La Pucelle. I was using an unpatched version of hdl and it wouldn't get past the "checking memory card" screen. I patched it and it now works. Superior job guys.

Nothing, nulla, nada, niet!!!!
My Socom II PAL version on my PAL PS2 does not works!!!

I tried ALL combinations (Accadeecee one too) but is always the SAME thing......
The game starts, I see the memory check, then I heard a "STACK" from the HHD and appears to me the browser...........shit!!!!

P.s.: I'm an Italian boy, sorry for my English.........
Someone can help me??? I've tried your patch too........

bbb77 if you haven't had it boot at all then chances are it will never boot for you untill an appropriate PAL patch is released or HDLoader advancements allow the game to be playable. For me, I am able to get the game to boot on very rare occasions, but the amount of time spent resetting the machine and loading up the game again becomes very annoying, very fast.
If you still wish to persist in trying this game out, then a few suggestions... Stick with the mode setting I stated earlier, Make sure that when you patched HDLoader you also enabled the /G option (Gradius V patch), and if it your not actually playing the game within the first 15 attempts then forget it.

Now that I think about it, from looking at some of your respective locations, could you guys be refering the PAL version of the game? Because that version works fine with any version of HDLoader.

As for another topic, I can confirm that Gitaroo-Man (USA, NTSC) works fine with HDLoader Fully Patched after enabling Date/time fix 2. Before, when trying to save, the game would take you back to the PS2 Browser. Now, it saves fine.

On another topic, for some reason, God of War (Flattened DVD9 iso) on my friend's PS2 would freeze whenever trying to save. Date/Time Fix 2 corrected this, but I found this unusual as I never had to enable any modes using HDLoader Fully Patched for God of War. Can anybody else speculate?

Guidelines for NOW WORKING and NO CHANGE games list (including LAN and ONLINE):

Games will be listed as NOW WORKING or NO CHANGE (With comments if applicable) according to reports made.

Games that have been listed as NOW WORKING or NO CHANGE may be listed as unconfirmed untill further reports are made.

Games that have conflicting reports will have "Mixed Reports" added to comments

When posting, Please state which region you have tested, as certain games are region specific to whether they work or not.

This list is highly dependant on USER SUBMISSIONS, if a game that is posted as working/no change, feel free to test it for yourself and post your experiences. For some, a game that does not work for them, may work for you. I myself have experienced this many times (Games listed as not working that actually work).

If you have a possible solution/fix for a game by all means post it, but before posting please test it first if possible.

To confirm a game as "Now Working", play at least to the end of the first level.... OR post in what way it has changed to the previous incarnation of HDLoader.

If you have a question as to whether or not a game works, please use the "Search Button" first, OR test it for yourself, your input, be it noob or veteran may help many others out.

Disclaimer: Every game that now works, is due to the efforts of many people within the scene. Credits go to <G>, Zer0-X, crazyc, Clement and many many others. These people have spent time, money, and effort to help us, the end user out, so please give everyone within the scene the respect they deserve.
As previously stated many games within this list have been submitted by various members of this forum, the accuracy of such a list depends on those members, please keep this in mind.

This patch broke my Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance save. I'm guessing it's a datefix thing somewhere, but I BSOD'd when saving and it destroyed my save. Now it BSODs whenever trying to load the list of saves.

EDIT:

EDIT:
I managed to use some trickery to redate the save file and it was able to load the save. I'm trying it on datefix 1 now. Can someone explain the datefixes?Okay, I'll try to do so, though crazyc is the one with the 'deepest' info on how he actually coded the fixes.

The basic problem for most games is that Sjeep left out some of the functions from his implementation of the CDVD driver. One (at least) of those functions is intended to read the realtime clock for making a timestamp, though some games use its return value for other things too (eg: randomization). Sjeep didn't realize that this function was needed (it's *identical* to another function which he did implement), so he just let it return a constant value, regardless of time... The result was garbage timestamps for saves, in some cases causing the games to regard them as corrupt and refuse loading.

crazyc first fixed this problem simply by patching the function pointer for this unimplemented function, so that it would instead execute its 'twin' function that Sjeep had implemented, as mentioned above. This fixed the problems for 99% of all games, but a few games still had problems that seemed related to timestamps. For these crazyc developed additional fixes that cure these games, but unfortunately break compatibility with LOTS of other games.

In versions 0.5x of hdlpatch, the patches were known as /D0, /D1, /D2 and /D3, where:

/D0 == The code Sjeep wrote, unfixed. Breaks timestamps for many games.
/D1 == Adds the missing function. Corrects timestamps for most games.
/D2 == Like /D1 + game specific patches. Breaks timestamps for many games.
/D3 == Like /D1 + game specific patches. Breaks timestamps for many games.

As you can see, it is only /D1 that can be considered a generic solution, with /D2 and /D3 being useful ONLY for the specific games they fix. And /D0, of course, serves no real purpose whatever, as it is just the original bug.

With hdlpatch 0.6b, you no longer have to make separate ELFs for each patch, but can instead choose this individually per game, and have this choice saved with the other mode bits. But unfortunately the default mode is /D0, which does break the timestamps of many games. This has been discussed lot lately, resulting in agreement that the next version will use /D1 as default instead, as that will fix the timestamps for nearly all games.

Best regards: dlanor

Thanks, that makes since. I think I was previously using a datefixed version without really knowing it which is why Baldur's Gate was working. Setting Datefix 1 fixed the problem and since I was able to redate the offending file, it's all good :)

I can't mention them all here, as there would be no sense in making such a mega-post. More than half of all games existing are probably affected by this bug.

Just to mention some of them briefly, you can see the problem with most Squaresoft games. Just save game in FFX (for example) and then reboot and inspect that save in the PS2 browser to check its timestamp. If you used HDL with the /D0 patch, then the timestamp will be insane.

Most notable games I've played without time stamp problems would be:
Some games do use the time function that was included in original HDL and those do work with it, but most use another time function and will get bad timestamps with original HDL, or when using patch /D0. In many cases it is still possible to play an affected game without noticing the bug, but it is still there, and may have effects that matter even if you don't notice them. (eg: This is the case for FFX)

One common effect is that when you go to a game load screen, it will not correctly show the latest save highlighted. This is because it has the same timestamp as other files, so the game fails to identify the most recent one.

Another effect, far less common but much more serious, is when games use that time function for other things than timestamps, such as timing-based randomization seeds for random event generation. Since the /D0 function always returns the same value, no randomization occurs, and the game may become very repetitive. I even heard of one game where the normally random battles stopped occurring completely...! (I don't remember which it was though.)

BTW Does HDL 0.6b contain the God of War FiX?
Yes, Zer0-X said it's part of the new DVD9 fix.

For HDL patched by hdlpatch 0.6b, that's what you need to do. But D1 will become the new default in the next version of hdlpatch 0.6c, and then the settings made for 0.6b will need to be changed.

So then you will either have to repeat this setup for all games again, so as to get the default, or else use HDL_Dump to install some new ISO, as that will reset the Date/timefix setting to the default value for all games. I'll use the latter method myself, as it is more convenient for me. But those with few games may prefer to fix their settings manually again.

After that you should never need to repeat this 'global' setup, as there should never be any reason to change the Date/timefix default from D1 to anything else. If any improved patch is made that works for all games, then it will simply replace the current D1 patch, so no settings will be affected by that.

Please double-check if you get this error with Date/timefix 1 active.

With current hdlpatch 0.6b, the default mode is /D0, which lacks one time function, and this has been reported to cancel some random battle effects for some games in the past. This is because the 'missing function' is used for random event generation, and with /D0 it erroneously returns the same value every time, so no random events occur.

It could very well be the same thing that happened to you.

Still, the symptoms are so similar to that other bug I mentioned, as you have the random battles when playing from disc, but none at all when playing from HDLoader. It makes me suspect that there may be additional 'missing functions', of similar kind to the one crazyc added for 'Date/timefix 1'.

Once the next hdlpatch version (0.6d) is released, it will be interesting to know if you still have the same problem, when trying the new bugfixed version of "Date/timefix 3".

o.k. will give it a try and see what happens, thanks for the heads up.

Did it require the Gradius patch? If so try the new uab patch.

accadeecee

Yep it required the Gradius V fix. Just applied both the new, D3 and SC2 patch to an already hdlpatch_0.6c patched elf and tested Lego Starwars, No change with mode 3 enabled (Set D2 and D3 to yes). I'm transferring SC2 over now to make sure something hasn't gone wrong with my patching process.

*Edit* Soul Calibur 2 booted fine with the new patch. LEGO Starwars, No Change. GT4 now not working after applying SC2 patch

I have a slight correction for:

Star Wars Starfighter (NTSC) and Romance of the 3 Kindoms VIII (NTSC).

It seems that they work fine on my v7 and v10 with a Maxtor 200gb 5400rpm HDD. But fails to work at all when using a Seagate 400gb 7200rpm HDD. Im not sure why they fail to play. But they work great on the slower drives. Ive tried using mode 1, mode 3, and mode 1+3 in the compatibility menu but doesnt work on the 400gb drive.

anyone tried suikoden IV again, with the latest set of time/date patches?
because the game only hangs when loading a save, i think this is related to time/date.

(and yes, I know it's already in the "no change" list, but I don't think I've seen a test with the latest D3 patch).

Probably not. I think crazyc and zero-x are mostly messing around with the hdloader core which runs on the IOP.

One could write an external app to install games though. Maybe something like that will come out of the "free hdloader" project?

I installed Neo Contra (NTSC) via WinHIIP 1.7.2, UNPATCHED, and the game played fine. Viewtiful Joe (NTSC) still needed a patch to run fine. However, I'm wondering if a patch is still necessary for Jak 3 (NTSC) to run. I installed an UNPATCHED version, but it froze. I installed a PATCHED version and it froze, but then I just found out Mode 3 needed to be enabled, and doing so let the game run fine. I'm just wondering with the HDL 0.6d Patch is Jak 3 still needs to be patched. If nobody else has interest in testing this, I might later tonight.

Ratchet and Clank works...better than before. Before, on my HDLoader, i used to go into the game, create my save but once in game and pressed a button it froze. Now it goes a little further and then the controller locks up, the audio loops, and the enemies just finish me off and kill me. I don't know why people say this game doesn't boot, because it boots fine for on my original HDLoader disc, it's just playing that gives me a problem. I'm talking about Up Your Arsenal. I used no modes and am using HDloader 0.6d. It seems to look up because of the memory card. Let me try playing without it.
Okay, tried it. It just locks up after the first cutscene after you go in game. It's a shame.

using hdl 0.6d, kof 2002 usa or jap (i have both original dvds), have some initial slowdown when i choose roulette. after win 1st battle, the roulette begins sort and the slowdown happens before choose random chars. another issue is sometimes game hangs between rounds. freezes at black screen in minutes or an hour. i tried many combinations of modes, no success. usb extreme doesn't have this roulette slowdown, and after several hours playing, no hangs or freezes, just slow loadings, normal issue. sorry by bad english. ;)

Yeh, that and Kill HDL. The NTSC version apparently works better than the PAL. My PAL MC3 freezes when loading up a saved career, but to work around this I start a new game, quit it.... then load my saved career. As for the music, the song titles just scroll at the bottom of the screen so fast that they become a blur, but no actual music plays during races.

As far as I'm aware, you'd need to use the newer versions of hdldump or winhiip that are specially designed to transfer the dual-layered games. You won't be able to install them from the PS2's tray.

any dvd9 game needs to be riped from the dvd with dvd decrypt as an iso. you should get the full file (over 4.7gb) then you need to use hdl dump or winhiip 1.7.2 and install the iso. their is now way to put a dvd9 game straight from the ps2 to hdd. (that i know of)

the only thing that hdl 0.7b does is make dvd9 games playable on the hdd without the need to flatten or patching or converting of any kind

If anyone is having trouble getting Contra Shattered Soldier NTSC usa to work with HDL 0.7b try this out. same goes for any CD game that wont install via HDL on the PS2.

Make the bin and cue of the game using cdrwin,
Click on Extract Disc/Tracks/Sectors and use RAW, CD-TEXT, and MCN/ISRC.
Error Recovery: Ignore
Jitter Correction: Disable
Subcode Analysis: Fixed
Data Speed 1x Read Retry Count 20
Audio Speed 1x Subcode Threshold 300
Click start

When Bin/Cue is made use the newest WinHIIP to transfer image to the HDD.
Select CD instead of DVD before transfer.

Put the HDD back into the PS2, load up the new HDL 0.7b (its 0.7c now) and play the game without changing any modes.

I hope this helps, as it works great for me.

Trouble is it only generates at any one time, about six of your AI team mates, so you spend most of your time trying to find someone to takedown rather than the fast action of the single player game.
