**** = Plays flawlessly. This is the way!

### Comments

(need...) if the game works only with a proper fix
(info) if the game works 100%, but is lacking info on overall performance
(slow) if the game boots, is playable, but it doesn't play at a decent speed.
Only "game speed" is to be considered, not Fmvs...
(hangs on...) if the game boots, but hangs somewhere (doesn't mean it is not playable)

I'm also thinking about trying with mediaplayers and/or browsers (central station).
My main concern is to find a 100% working lan game too. Actually only Timesplitters 2 achieved this much!

yea i tried mediaplayer too and it doesnt even show up as a game (same with snes station) but u CAN use ps2loader(like cdloader) and make multiple cds/dvds , so i made one that should boot the snesstation (didnt boot) , media player boots: the mcloaderscreen but if u press load from cd then obvious the cd starts spinning and cant find anything.....btw. i use usbadvance as a ELF on the mc (with the exploit obvious)

What does mode 3 on hdloader exactly do to the game cuz maybe there is a way to patch games mode 3 for usb .

If i'm not wrong mode3 removes hdloader from memory when the game starts... :chinscrat

...anyway i think usbadvance and hdloader do not work 100% the same.
Maybe future versions (if any) could improve it's compatibility. :-pray:

i edited your thread heading and stuck it. let it be the official game list then. I would ad some sort of further readme to this. There is a growing legion of lamer sites that all they do is swallow up compatability lists and things from other sites and dont even bother to credit the authors.

:chinscrat sorry I havent any evidence both of them are different, as you know, usbadvance is a crack version of usbextreme, so i think some parts should be different.
anyway i will order the orginial usbextreme from local retailer soon, then i can test it if they are same thing.

Yes, i got the same error. I hope there is somebody who knows why some people cant use usbadvance. I got a V4 with messiah, i also got some probs with the hdloader, while my ps2 finds the hd, and starts the game up, but hangs after 30 secs everytime.

I'm interested in swapping the internal IDE HDD of my PS2 to an external USB HDD. As I'm pretty much only interested in GT4, and I read here that it works, I wondered if the LAN mode works as well. I know that it doesn't with the internal HDD unless you use a patched HDL. So does LAN on GT4 work with the external USB HDD, and do I have to do anything special to make it work?

Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy is reported as working just fine with USB for both PAL and NTSC, so the problem could be it didnt rip correctly from the disc, depending on the program used to install with. Another reason could be a scratched or dirty disc.

OR you used a pre-ripped ISO from another source and its not ripped properly, meaning its a bad ISO for installing with.

That fix is for HDLoader, not for USB.

As for USB, I'm not aware of needing any special patch for it. It does work for me, though I don't consider this a game that it is worthwhile to play from a USB HDD, due to the unavoidable stutters caused by the slow USB 1.1 interface.

So I can't really say that I've tried to play the game for real from USB. Possibly it does get stuck somewhere as described above. But even if it did not get stuck there it would still be no joy to play it this way, as this game simply is too graphics-intensive to be enjoyable over such a slow interface.

For those who can't use an IDE HDD (where the patch mentioned above is needed btw), I recommend playing FF12 from the original disc or from an ESR-patched backup.

Use HDD with network adapter. It is the best option out there for playing games from HD.

This is true, but what makes it even worse is that you never get real USB 1.1 speed either. Most manufacturers of USB devices have limited support for USB 1.1 today, meaning that they never bother to speed optimize that code. The effective speed you'll get will vary between different brands/models, but it will never reach the theoretical specs of USB 1.1.

My own experience is that the 'SanDisk Cruzer Micro' models are somewhat faster for USB 1.1 transfers than most other flash drives I've tried.

This matters a lot, as the original US and JP releases lacked tons of features that were added later (Dark Aeons etc), and even the PAL releases lack the Bikanel time warp of the JP 'International' re-release.

If you want to rip any of your games to USB check the compatibility list over there to save some time. If your games are not listed you have to try for yourself but if they are listed you have a quick answer to : will it work or not ?

USB 1.1 on the PS2 is extremely slow compared to the DVD drive, so for most PS2 games you have to expect a launch delay of several minutes. And for games with lots of intro movies the case is even worse...

No, that's impossible. USBAdvance is a PS2 program and can only work in PS2 mode.

At present no method for running PS1 games off alternate media is available to the public, though we all hope that ffgriever will soon have time to finish the PS1 emulator he has made (PS2PSXe).

The beta version of that emulator is the only PS2 program in existence that can run PS1 games, but it is not yet ready for a public release.

That's impossible for me to say. My understanding is that he is still not quite finished with another project that's been consuming most of his time lately, so right now he might not yet even be back working on the PS2PSXe project. And when he does take it up again there is no telling at what pace he will work on it. So your guess is as good as mine in this. (The only difference between us really is that I have the beta he made earlier.)

I see what you mean, but considering the large size of USBA split files (only final block of a game can be less than 1 gigabyte) I doubt very much that this would have any large influence.

Since each file has a maximum size of 1 GB, a simple 'seek' command is all that it takes to select the correct position within a file. I don't really see how anyone could mess that up by much.

But another thing that can and will have a major impact on the CDVD emulation efficiency is the amount of fragmentation in the FAT32 filesystem. Regardless of the file sizes we can see for the 'part' files of a USBA game, each of those files will consist of an unknown number of fragmented sector blocks, and currently we do not even have any tools to check that with.

So while the high-level method of positioning within a 'part' file only needs to use a simple 'lseek' command, this will translate to an unknown number of 'sector jumps' for the low-level filesystem driver (here that would be USBHDFSD.irx).

After a game started (ELF executed by USB with necessary driver-patches), this problem doesn´t occour anymore, because the rest is kinda "streamed" then.

I tried it on a freshly formated 2GB-Stick, but the Sticks USB 1.1-Support is maybe not that good (slow transfer-rate, or whatever...).
My Sony is a way faster [some videos are playing good with this stick, while they do not with the other one...], but might be heavily fragmented, since I move files back and forth on it VERY often...).

Ok need to ask. I have alone in the dark (newest). I wanted to put the game on a pendrive using USButil 2.00 and using USB advance. It says in USButil that it should work and I even checked the íso structure and it showed up no errors. The game starts up normaly. You come to the titlescreen. I can start a new game and the memory card gets checked. After that when the actual game i supposed to load it never shows up. Like a neverending loading. You can se the game loading symbol at the bottom and the loading text but that's it. I left that screen for a half hour to check if it was extreme loading but without success. So I have read that it could be alot of things but what do you think.
Is it the pendrive? I had shadow of rome on the pendrive before and it works really nice. Should there be a patch or something...DNAS?

Perhaps you should tell us what game you are talking about...
Nearly all compatibility lists have some error that needs correcting, especially for those games that work partway, but fail when you get to the interesting bits. Some people only test partway, and will then report such a game as working well, even though its not true.

DNAS and IOPRP are filename prefixes for a special kind of file used by most PS2 games. What they have in common is that they all contain a collection of various device driver modules for the IO processor of the PS2 (aka: IOP modules, or IRX files when separate). What they differ in is that the DNAS files are mainly intended for network-capable games with DNAS protection, while the IOPRP files are used by the majority of games.

These kinds of files are NOT universally interchangeable, as any given game is likely to work only with very few IOPRP or DNAS files of its own 'generation' developer-wise. But in some cases incompatibility with USBAdvance can be solved by replacing one such file with another close relative, suitably renamed to match the original.

I tested another of my games resident evil outbreak with similar symptoms, the loading screen and nothing more. I think I did get that DNAS is more for network before and thanks for you description. Still wonder even though the DNAS is more for networking could the code mix with a nonworking iso enough to get it to work?
