USB advance detects the games I installed onto the USB drive but freezes at the "loading please wait" screen. Im using a seagate 160Gb drive with 2 partitions with v12 + crystal chip. could it be because of the partitions? also, is it possible to boot into usbadvance through memory card with the crystal chip?

The ul_format program clearly states that you need to have the drive formatted as a single partition. I don't know the details of why that should be needed, and I have no way of testing it properly, as I have no USB HDD.
My own tests of USBadvance have been made only with a USB Memory stick (a 64MB HP Disgo). On this I have installed some small CD ISOs with homebrew apps, including some emulators (InfoNES, InfoGB, PSMS2). All of these installed ISOs are not only recognized in the menu, but they also launch correctly.
BTW: Unlike most others, those emulators from the "7not6 christmas pack" can read ROM files from folders on the 'virtual' CDROM provided by USBadvance.
also, is it possible to boot into usbadvance through memory card with the crystal chip?
Well, it works fine with the Matrix Infinity, so it should work with any modchip that supports Dev1 booting. In fact, with LaunchELF I can even boot USBADVN.ELF from the same USB device with the installed ISOs. :)

I'v used another 4gb Quantum 3'5" old disk i'v in a usb 2.0 enclosure for 3.5" disks, but no Hard Disk detectected, it tells me "no usb device"...

USB Advance is not so shitty... it's a good utility for the people who already owns a USB HDD and don't want to waste money on buying a network adapter...
For the loading time, I believe it's very similar to the loading time of CD/DVD, see yourself with the video file I attached. (The picture quality is shitty, file size limit :P)
It also proves that USB Advance is working with FFX!!!! :wow:

it seems to me that it took about 20 seconds to initially load the game.

The load times in that video were horrible. Especially the loading from the game selection screen.

2 things to say :
To Alcahest : STFU
To anigamer : Well, it's kinda long to start, but once it's started it's easily playable, after all, it's better than nothing. The truth is that I plan trying to use it to boot some elf files, that's all

oh i must have offended you somehow. not quite my point, just that it's even slower than on DVD so.. i don't even want to think about the trillions of random battles loading times you'd have to suffer from this.

Sorry then,I though you were saying something like I was stupid to play FFX.. if you really wanna know, there's no loading at all on battles... maybe I should've showed a video from a battle. That's why I say it's working quite well after the loading at the beginning. I would try more games but it's kinda useless since I prefer keeping my HD for my backup (not games, backup of important files)

That's true. At least it will work perfectly with elf files. In fact, that is the best use of this software. To boot elf files off a usb key.

LaunchELF does a much better job of that though

I tried the USB Seagate HDD on a v9 ps2 (with a matrix mxl2) and it is working fine but how do you explain that it simply hangs at the loading screen on my version 12 ps2!!! is this some bug?? or crystal chip incompatibility??!

This is probably the same problem I had.
There's some kind of conflict between USBadvance boot methods and the "Macrovision Fix" of the Matrix Infinity. You need to open the mod-chip settings menu and turn that fix to the OFF setting, save settings and reboot. Doing this fixed the problem completely for me.
To get to the settings menu, just press down both the Circle and Triangle buttons of the controller while resetting, and keep them pressed until the menu appears (just a few seconds).
Btw: If the version number you gave is correct, that chip has rather old firmware. You may need to upgrade that as well.

Thanks for the answer -dlanor- but V10 is only for try and closed my problem with V12
I think for v10 is best HD-not usb ;)
I think my problen with V12 is the -slimchip70k- conflict
