View Full Version : Lego Star Wars working (but no sound)

well ... my 8 year old drove me to it. he really wanted to play Lego Star Wars, but I didn't like the way the CD game (sheesh, i can't believe that it's a CD) was beating the crap out of the laser.

well, after several hours i found a patch that would allow the game to run, but there's no sound. (yeah, me and the ten thousand monkeys in the back found a patch that half-ass works).

the problem seems to be in the "NUSND3G.IRX" module (i don't think that i've seen this module used in any other game).

i wish that i had more knowledge in this area such that i *could* get the sound working (ala zero-x or crazy-c style), but i have a lot of learning to do (the 5 month old makes that difficult) [i'd love to learn if someone could push me in the right direction]. hey, then i could upgrade to a cool hyphenated name, too!

for those interested in running Lego Star Wars off the hdd (but with no sound) try the following:

Option 1:
If you have the CUE/BIN file:
- check location 2B8C6A04 in the BIN file. you should see the string 'cdvdman'. replace this with all nulls (ie. 636476646d616e should become 00000000000000)

-or-

Option 2:
Working with the raw files:
- check location 00018F4C in the NUSND3G.IRX file. you should see the string 'cdvdman'. replace this with all nulls (ie. 636476646d616e should become 00000000000000)

i hope this helps someone.

cheers  ,
kev

ps - all modes off

Awesome. It is much easier to extract the files out of the image and back it up to DVD. I did this and my drive stopped making all that noise (having a mod chip so that you don't have to worry about boot method is very helpful if you plan to do this).

I would consider putting it on my HD except for the fact that a DVD backup works wonderfully... and I just beat the game :-/

@ p6447 : I'm at work right now, so I'll have to double check those addresses once I get home. Just to be clear, I'm testing with the NTSC version.

@ TarzanMan : Did you just do a straight rebuild of the files to DVD? (ie. did you have to patch any media checks?) I'm guessing that you didn't have to.

These are the instructions I followed. They came from another user on a torrent forum. I used a different iso program (either UltraIso or Magic Iso, i forget which), but I did burn using Nero

To answer kgn340's question. No, no media check adjustments at all... but I have a Matrix Infinity which autodetects/autoboots... so others might have issues with PS2 modes to use?

here is how to get it to work like me on a v10 ntsc with fliptop and works with swap magic 2 and 3

Before you get started you need a few programs.

1. Latest version of Nero you can get
2. Iso Buster
3. Some time and understanding that this works about 90% of the time.

Ok so you got this game that is on cd and cant boot PS2 cds on your system, you want to put them on dvd.
First make sure you have everything installed.
1. Make a folder somewhere you wont forget where it is name it whatever you want, I just make it on my desktop, and keep called new folder.
2. Using Iso Buster extract all the files and folders from your "cd" image to you "new folder" on your desktop.
3. Open Nero burning rom (I dont use express so these instructions will not use it). Start a new compilation.
4. Make sure you select dvd in the drop menu, it may say cd now but chage it.
5. Scroll down all the way and select Dvd-Rom (UDF/ISO).
6. On the mutisession tab select no multisession.
7. On the ISO tab make sure there are no check marks in any of the boxes, (there is one that is greyed out that says allow more than 64 charecters, dont worry about this).
8. Still on the ISO tab file name length should be max of 11 = 8 + 3chars Iso level 1
9. Still on ISO tab charecter set should be iso 9660 (standard iso cd rom)
10. Next under UDF tab UDF partion type should be Physical Partition
11. Still inder UDF tab file system version should be UDF 1.02
12. Leave force dvd-video compatability uchecked
13. Under the label tab make up a name for you compilation
14. Dates tab leave it alone it doesnt matter
15. Misc tab make sure each box has a check mark
16. Burn tab, if it is going to be less than s gigs burn at your slowest speed, otherwise dont worry too much
17. Hit the new button
18. Browse to your folder you created and put all the files and folders in there just the way they are
19. Hit burn
20. Sit back and wait
21. Play game using your favorite booting method for dvd's

Just remember this only works like 90% of the time

also for emulators do the same thing, and follow the ins for that particular emulator

These instructions worked perfectly for me. No more drive noise

^^^ would this work if you rebuilt the ISO into a DVD using CDDVDgen?

I'm more used to that method of rebuilding PS2 games, and it seems like it SHOULD work and that you're doing about the same thing.

have you tried deleting the cdvdman string from the cdvdstm.irx file?

Just done that now, gonna transfer to the HD. I expect it will work but playing with no sound is no fun!!

now that the GT4 patch is made, i would be a good idea to try patching this one ;)

Just because a GT4 patch has been made doesnt mean a patch for this and every other will be made, would be nice though ^_^

I was able to do this and reproduce it -- it runs fine, just doesn't have any sound. Like everyone else, I'd love to see a better patch, but this will work for now.

Is it just me or does LSW not have any dialog? I just have sound effects. It's pretty weird to play with no talking :)

I have got Lego StarWars working from HDD with a HDLoader ELF which is patched with every patch. I dont know if only one of the patch's would have made it work? the only problem I have is now GT4 HDD Version wont work with this HDLoader. So now I need to use 2 different HDLoaders.

I have sorted it out now. I have a Matrix Infinity chip and for some reason if I load HDLoader from MC through the Infinity browser GT4 wont work but it will if I load HDLoader form CD/DVD which defeat's the point of having a Matrix Infinity Chip.

But I can't get Enthusia to work off of HDD the music gose funny (fast) and the games freeze's. But it workes from DVD fine.
