It has to be a USB HDD. It didn't detect anything for my stuff on the internal and my stock XBox HDD wouldnt detect. My USB enclosure might be fucked.

as for the xbox hdd, you need to unlock it before you can use it anywhere else than its originating xbox. There's several tools to do that (like evox)

I know, Im not retarded :D

It just wont detect in anything, even in system management on my PC. Its unlocked, so Im thinking my enclosure just died.

Does it show up with fdisk? If it does delete all partitions creat a new one then format.

I'm having the same problem where it doesn't see my usb Western Digital 80GB enclosure/drive. It sees my 256Mb usb key though.. Also the drive works fine when connecting to my computer, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

I tried the 2 I have, both unlocked, both failed to be recognized even by my pc in my usb enclosure. Both worked fine using ide...
It seems USBa has trouble to recognize the usb enclosure. I usualy start the drive first and let it initialize (you know that grinding sound at startup) connect it to my pstwo then ON the console.

Natboy, I read somewhere you should try to power up usbadvance first, wait for it to load, then plug in the hard drive.

As far as I know, WinXP will not allow this to be done, but Win2K will allow it. However, you don't need to do it for the sake of USBadvance, regardless of the nonsense stated by ul_format. Just format as a normal FAT32 partition and it will work fine, provided of course that this USB pen is at all compatible with the PS2 homebrew USB drivers. Unfortunately some are just not compatible. (Our USB drivers must miss some part of the standards.)

I used to have a "Kingston 128MB Data Traveler" which did not work with any homebrew software, though it did work with AR MAX Evo. But a friend of mine offered to take it off my hands in exchange for a "64 MB HP Disgo", which works perfectly with all PS2 software that supports USB. This trade was good for both of us, as he needed size, while I needed PS2 homebrew compatibility.

I've tried a couple of things with my external, and it still doesn't work. I then tried opening it with LaunchElf, and that doesn't see it either, so it just must be non-compatible with the PS2. Is there a way to try and use a different usb driver?

This is a actual usb 2.0 external 80 drive. It was on clearance new from Office Depot for $49. I might just have to rip it open and try putting in a new drive or maybe using a different enclosure.

It's called a Series II USB 2.0 Hard Drive WDXU800BB on WD's site.

I'm using a NSP-511 enclosure with a Western Digital 80GB HD and it works fine!

Formatted my disc to NTFS then used the tool provided to format.

I have a pstwo with DMS4. I tried using USBadvance with an 80Gig external drive.
Can you load USBadvance before you connect the drive?
Is there a USB driver I need to install?
When I load my USBadvance in my pstwo I just get a black screen, and the hdd drisk doesn't appear to be getting accessed.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

You CAN'T use HD from HDA in USB Loader. They seems to be different file systems.

heli_easy : Try booting USB Advance WITHOUT anything plugged in your USB Slot. Once it's loaded, try plugging your USB HD... this program IS plug and play.

I have a pstwo with DMS4. I tried using USBadvance with an 80Gig external drive.
Can you load USBadvance before you connect the drive?
Yes. You can plug and unplug the drive after launching the ELF. And each time that you plug it in the drive will be scanned for installed games.
Is there a USB driver I need to install?
No. You only need USBADVN.ELF
When I load my USBadvance in my pstwo I just get a black screen, and the hdd drisk doesn't appear to be getting accessed.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
I'm not sure, as that depends on your mod-chip (if any).

I got the same problem with my Matrix Infinity, and was told that this is due to some conflict USBadvance has with the "Macrovision Fix" of that chip. After changing the settings for the chip to turn that fix OFF, the problem disappeared.

My DMS4 chip has a "Macrovision Fix" but i can't shut it off. I think maybe the DMS4 is not compatible with USBadvance. Has anyone gotten this to work with a DMS4 chip?
