hi
I am getting my Ps2 Slim V12 back today so i was wondering if there is any way of knowing that the chip in my ps2 is a Matrix Infinity since that is what i ordered from the moder.
I am asking this because i read a thread yestoday about there is a chep China chip being installed as a Matrix Infinity :wow: .
I got a picture of the Matrix Infinity for V12 but i didn't want to open the ps2 since i don't know anything about it...

Please someone help me.

Hold Triangle + Square upon boot up and that should give you infinity manager.

OK. did what you said with and without a game in the drive and nothing comes up. the onlything is the memory card. and i tryed to update it to 1.39 and it says programing ok. after that the i think it says 1.33 but also looks like 1.39 so i am not sure which.

does anybody know of anyother way of knowing which chip i have?

boot up the ps2 with no disc in the drive, then put in a DVD movie (use just the eject button, without hitting reset at any time)

if the movie loads and starts playing, chances are you have an Infinity chip

Well you pretty much confirmed that you do have an infinity chip by seeing that infinity version logo. Now you have to find out if it's a clone or the real thing. Try doing what Loy. Change the settings in the config menu and save, if your chip stops working after that then it's a clone. :wow:

Actually I do not understand the Matrix guys. They have been promising an utility to detect clones for almost one year or more. It should help a lot of people. I mean the test that Loy suggested is ok, but if it's a clone, then the mod won't work anymore and it takes some time to get it replaced by the installer in many cases. Or a protection that does not allow the upgrade, which also would tell the user that he has a clone or not. Never mind, I've been just thinking a bit.

That would be pretty cool if the Matrix team (or maybe just some hacker out there) could modify a firmware upgrade for the Infinity, and remove the functionality of the settings menu. No more screwed up clones, no more PO'ed user complaining that their "Matrix" chip has failed them.

the only way to test is :
go to the config menu(triangle+ circle presed from stb)
make any change ( like the time ).
press start to save.
turn off the console .
If work again with copies is ORIGINAL.
If dont work is FU...D clone

like i said before i took my SLim Ps2 apart and the chip inside looks the same as the Matrix Infinity chip picture from the Matrix teem's website. So i was wondering do the Clone of the Infinity look the same as the Real Infinity chip?

I had the same issue, didn't know I had a clone and went into the settings to change something, then tested it and now it no longer works. Is there a way to recover the clone from not working after changing its settings!?

Not at all, they look different

But the price difference now is so little I dont see a point in anyone trying to install clones instead of originals!!

Danny

in theory, ur already lame if u download(50 dollar) games and play them all with a chip worth 40 dollar...but buying a CLONE to save 10 dollars, while u already saved HUNDERDS of dollars is like really really really lame lol :P

Just incase you are looking at the wrong Matrix Infinity site, then here is the real Matrix Infinity Modchip.

The red dot at the top could be Yellow or Blue.
