I have just removed a neo 4 and installed a home made magic 3 in my v4 ps2.

When I press the reset to switch the thing on the tray opens!!
the eject seems to have a mind of its own, sometimes it will work other times not.

Is the reset procedure the same as the magic 2 (hold reset for 2 secs to switch modes)?

I have tried a 33k , 16k resistor and a 15pf cap on the reset wire, which didn't seem to alter anything. I also removed the reset wire completely, and the tray still opened when I switched it on.

I did manage to get a ps2 game on cd and dvdr to boot occasionally though.

Anyone??

it could be a cold solder joint if if works right once the ps2 has been on for a while

check the area near the ba chip sounds like something might have gotten bridged when you removed the neo 4

also check neo4 points 40,41 for solder blobs/splashes

thanks

I did look at the ba chip and couldn't see anything wrong, I'll have another look and at points 40,41

One other thing is it necessary to conect up the z wire?, as I didn't.

Dude, Yes maye, you do NEED to connect the Z wire on magic3 homebrew.

It may help lots. also use the 16k on reset.
33k can playup I noticed.

Did you restore all cut/removed components for old neo4?

Yes I did restore the cut track and 1k resistor removed from the neo4 install. (machine wouldn't of booted if I didn't relink the cut track)

So what does the z wire do?
