Just a minor change that i think had to be made :D
Already installed it and works perfectly.
here some info:
This fix is based on the IDEA of MATRIX TEAM PIC FIX
And on the previus version of Comsoft & Albert 35
coded by XcalibEr aka Comsoft on 19/02/2005
change from version III
On version III the TEST was active if during the first second the tray opend.
In this version the TEST mode will be active ONLY if the pstwo boot and TRAY is OPEN at the same moment.
the following changes has been done from Ver II:
1. the pic will shutdown RS2400FS a 1.5 second from boot regardless of the state of the TRAY - WHEN INT IS FAILD!!!
2. the Test mode (tray open) will shutdown the pstwo a 1 second from boot (not instently as before).
explenation on how the PIC Fix works:
1. if on boot TRAY is open enters to TEST mode.
2. wait 1 second for pstwo to finish initiation.
3. if in TEST mode it does IMIDIATE SHUTDOWN PSTOW.
this is anables to check in anytime needed if the PIC/FIX is working.
4. checks for INT for every 250ms at anytime if INT is HIGH (which means it's ok and the mechanics controller is not in deadlock)
the PIC code jump to WATCHDOG routine.
5. if 1.5 second from boot have passed and the INT is still not active then the PIC CODE mute the RS2400FS (CD/DVD DRIVER)
and by that disable any current flow to the lens and to the CD/DVD motors.
6. if 3 seconds from boot have passed the PIC CODE shutdown the pstwo to save the lens.
WATCHDOG ROUTINE:
1. the PIC CODE check the INT line for every 1ms.
2. if the INT line FAILD (INT == LOW) for 50ms then the PIC CODE MUTE the RS2400FS CD/DVD DRIVER.
if after that the INT line return to be active (INT == HIGH) then the PIC CODE return the RS2400FS CD/DVD driver to active mode
and everything is back to normal and the user don't even know abot this.
3. if a 200 ms have passed and the INT line is still not active , this means MECHANICS CONTROLLER is in deadlock , and pstwo
is shutdown.
we take no responsebility what-so-ever for using this code/pic.
any suggestions/remarks please send to comsoft@cso.co.il
hope one will decide to make this pic on a PCB so all can enjoy it :-)
installation diagrams can be found here! (http://www.console.ombouw.com/v12/protectivecircuit.asp)

if someone fix is u'r ultimate solution why u'r serching for a new one??
there is no fix easier to install then the someone fix, so stay with it.
my fix is differ from somone fix by attacking the problem not the simptoms.
someone fix will save u'r lens when a stress of high current flow through them, but i don't know for how long (few seconds maby).
but my fix attacks the problem which cose this situation for the first place.

plus i met someone new on msn today who installed 200pstwos and no probs :P
face it - this solution is simple because it is only one flaw in the pstwo, not some software protection...
a modchip on the other hand cant be simple because it has to overcome protection.
I have no problem with your fix and it is nice that you find so much joy in it.

get a life and wake up, i not search or want your solution
ps diodes matrix pic i got no dead ciols, none, but 3 dead laSER ALL READ CD NOT DVD
SUMMONE FIX, not 1 dead ciol, no returns at all, but i seen few reports dead lasers that will only read cd
my hope was your fix would stop the later problem
now to me it seems quite obvious , u want your name remembered as solver of the v12 problem, to do this u need to make your solution as simple to understand as possible, if not it get shoved under the carpet asnd forgot about

Come on guys, this is not right. Comsoft and Albert are just putting there fix out there. They have nothing to gain, they just want to help the scene. Also, this is based on the Matrix Pic Fix. From what I've read on here, the Matrix Pic Fix and Summ0ne's fix are highly recommended. Comsoft and Albert's fix is an improve version of the Matrix Pic Fix, I would not doubt its potential.

There's plenty of room for fixes on the scene, no doubt.
My only wish is that the politiking (sp?) would end... it's crap. Statements like:
my fix is different from somm0ne fix by attacking the problem not the symptoms.
For that to be true, your fix would have to prevent mechacon crashes. How do you figure it does that?
All fixes, as far as I can see, respond to a crash. I get the impression from all accounts that summ0ne's fix does the job, as does yours, comsoft. So why the postulating?

i'm just happy they didn't start selling it and released it to the scene. i haven't had a chance to try ur pic fix but i will when i get some more pic's in. i recommand the matrix pic fix with summ0ne's fix and seeing how urs is improved code it can only get better :) .
hope to try it out when i can and will report on how the fix goes.

Hell i didn't say ur fix is not good, stop being protective :)
I my self installed couple of pstwos with combination of our two fixes (bullet proof solution if u ask me).
my question is that. u'r fix seem to be working from what i read on the scene. but did u really tested to see how long on mechanics controller lockup takes the pstwo to fry the lens???
cose if it takes the user too much time to pull the plag off i think the laser will die.
my fix will stop any current to the laser 50ms after INT not responding. so i think at this period of time no damage will happen to the lens even without any additional fix to the lens.

there is something in u'r saying :)
but i ment: problem = mechanics contoller lockup. solution = stop current to lens and if still lockup shutdown pstwo. better solution the letting the user pull the plag.
summone fix:
problem accure, simptom == high current through coils. solution = resistor to rute the current.
so the combination of the two will be bullet proof if u ask me.
think of this: a PCB with our pic and summone resistor on tracking and albert capacitors on focus. the best fix ever.
PLEASE SOMEONE MAKE THIS FIX ON PCB :-pray:

why u think i do it for fame? :chinscrat what does this so called fame give me?
if i wasn't really belive in my fix then why would i waist my time on it making improvments, testing it , and so?
if i really was thinking of sommone fix to be the ultimate answer to the problem then i would install only it and make my life easyer.
HELL I COULD BE WRONG AND SUMMONE FIX COULD BE EASY AND WORKING AS THE ROMEO FIX!! BUT AS LONG AS I'M NOT SURE ABOUT IT, AND SUMMONE CAN'T BE SURE EATHER, I'M TRAYING FO FIND A BETTER SOLUTION AS WE ALL HAVE TOO!!!
sommone make a great fix by making it as simple as possible, and that is amaizing. the guy know electronics for sure.
I'm seeing it from the programming side as a programmer my self, and my logic says "since mechanics controler lockup is dangouress to the lens, don't relay on user to shutdown console, let the pic do it...."
and the most amaizing think in our pic is the ability to SHUTDOWN ANY CURRENT FLOW TO THE CD/DVD device.
so i was thinking a combination of our two fixes will save the lens like this:
1. when mechanics controller lockup the resistor of summone will rute the current.
2. when pic suspect of controller lockup after 50ms it disable any current to the CD/DVD (no need for summone fix here)
3. when pic KNOW mechanics controller is lockup shutdown pstwo - INSTED OF USER PULLOUT CABLE.

all i need is some serious buyers.
so comsoft, if u can provide pre-programmed PICs with your code....
minimum batch = 1000

minimum 1000 .. wow how am i gonna progamm them one by one
is there an easy way ? is there any chinees factory that can do that??
i bet in the factory thay can program 1000 pcs at once :D
i never had the chance of doing that, but if someone here know how do to it , cheap and fast please help.
in here (israel) thay want 3.15$ for each PCB including the components soldering.

1000 pcs is still a small quantity, so u have to do it by hand :(
i already have experience in making these pcbs:
http://subzero-chip.com
for 1000pcs and all components robotically soldered on cheap single-side quicksolder PCBs i can reach a price around 1$, not including PIC price.
how long does it take u to program 1?
make the icprog go as fast as possible, verify during programming - it usually zooms thru the addresses where there is no code.
for my SubZero 2 chips i pay my classmates below 3EUR/h and they program 30-40/h. i bet a PIC with short code takes less time to program then a SX.
In china they have cheap labour... here i have cheap students ;)

u not going on about what i have done for the scene any more, maybe u have done a bit of homework
No i didn't do any homework and actully i don't care. i'm not into competition who is more contributing to the scene, but i'm not into flame fight either.
as i asked before this bitching is getting people no were, reread u see i never wanted this i just made a simple suggestion that i thought would help the public greatly
i'm always open into suggestions, but u'r message was more into flaming then sujjesting anything.

I wasn't the one who did the bitching, all i did was releasing my fix and pointing on weak point that summone fix has in a way of finding a perfect solution which i think it achived by the combination of both fixes!!!

A number of supply chain vendors (eg, Avnet) will sell chips by the rail that are preprogrammed with your code. Microchip even does this directly, but you have to order many chips at a time.
comsoft - use my code ;) It works and it protects the console from the moment you power it on, instead of waiting 1.5 seconds. I've tested yours and it works too, but I haven't figured out how to deliberately cause a mechacon crash yet.
I haven't tested either of our code on the V12 yet... My unmodded, unopened V12 is now in the hands of Sony for warranty work... I left GTA:SA paused, went to the kitchen to cook supper. Later I smelled something that wasn't food, and found that my V12 had shit itself. It even left black soot on my GTA:SA disc... Perhaps Sony should start summ0ning its consoles from the factory.

I thought about disabling RS2400RS after 50ms of inactivity after the 1sec dealy.
I've based my code on matrix idea and albert finding when he connected the INT line to the digital analizer. and if i remeber correctly on the first second of initioation there is no communication on the INT line (correct me if i'm wrong).
anyway right now it mute the RS2400FS after 1.5 second from boot. and since the 1 second is just used to init the ps2, then there is no risk to the lens on this period of time.
the only question is do i need to reduce the 500ms to 50ms insted??!!
any idea apritioated.

If the PIC mutes the RS2004FS when it first turns on, there's no problem. I'm thinking there's the possibility there could be a mechacon crash right away when you turn the playstation on, so your first 1.5 seconds could be 1.5 seconds of coil burn.
Use the T0CKI trick that I'm using in my code to do the 50ms thing. Use the timer hardware to count INT pulses instead of making your software poll the line.
comsoft

From my testings the mechanic contoller start when the ps2 is READING a disk and/or traying to patch the bios lines.
i don't think it's a good idea to right on boot mute the RS2400FS since the ps2 init the lens and move it to it's parking position.
maby i can reduce the INT FAIL delay on boot from 500ms to 50ms and see if it's working fine.
someone here before sayed that he knows the neoasic group and say he can speak with them to produce the fix.
well, i would love to buy my self.

do you really need a PCB for this? just use a 12C508 in a DIP package with the leads bent sideways, just like almost every PS1 modchip ever made...
Presolder some wires and a decoupling capacitor to the PIC, and you've got a full fix ready to install. Just glue it to the board somewhere and wire it up.

You can download all the files at:
http://www.mod-area.com/tutorials_e.html
Please communicate with us: info@mod-area.com if you wanna buy pcb or diy kit.
I spoke with Comsoft about the possibility to sale the PCB complete and he was OK with that
Summone, if you agree, I could also put resistor to make a complete package for lens protection
I will try to make a price list and keep the price reasonnable.
The PCB version is full with the PCB design so you can also make it yourself.
For those who don't have a PIC programmer, I can suppy the kit.
Don't forget, this is the work of Comsoft, I only did the PCB layout and the diagrams.

I just got the same thing and here's the info they released with it
Slim fix v.3 is the new version of the v12 fix ,it is build in the latest hex code to protect the 7000x lens, and works much better than others.
All fixes on the internet with regulators current limiters and diode fixes are not working so accurate as this one because they only limit the current a little and time will kill you're coils at the end.
This protection circuit will totally shut down the output channels of the RS2004FS the moment MECHANICS CONTROLLER or DSP crash, fail ore whatever.
If mechanics controller or DSP will crash during play this laser protection circuit responds in less than 50ms and put RS2004FS in mute mode so all output channels are shut down and current thru you're laser will be 0 (zero, nada nopes). If the error state of mechanics controller or DSP continuous for more than 200ms the PStwo will shut down.
To test if you're protection circuit is working put you're PStwo in standby mode open the top cover and press the reset button you're PStwo will not switch on. If it switches on there is something wrong installed
This protective circuit is done by COMSOFT (aka XcalibEr) and Albert35,thank you for their best work

Comsoft,
I know that it's a lot of work.
Don't forget, it's to help people out there. Anyway, all the documentation is available.
By the way, I ask a quote in Hong-Kong and for 100pcs, it's 3$ per unit.
They don't tell me about the revision code.

I just got in my first 25 of the new PCB version of this fix. Ill be installing all 25 this week for testing. I was told that they were switching to a white PCB, on the next batch, but these are green. They have the wires pre-attached and there is a layer of sticky-film on the back side covered by wax paper. Much like the Duo2SE, Messiah2 etc. Ive get some pictures that I will be uploading. Cross your fingers for me.
edited to say-->
Ive done 3 of these now. They seem to work. They DO cut the power off until the lid is closed. It took me under 2 mins to install these. Ill be installing the other 22 over the next few days.

A new production of our fix is release and can be found on neoasic website.
this version uses the old code but has combines with a diode fix for extra protection.
forthermore the fix is has a spacial shape for very easy installasion. :)
2005.03.18 >>> New Slim Fix released ~ Another PStwo Slim Fix sample arrived us for survey.
We just received the new slim fix board for survey. It is a special PCB design with one PIC and 4 pcs of diode for protection all PS2 SCPH-700XX console. The new fix is the same function to slim fix VIII ( based on the idea of Matrix-FIX and on the previus version of Comsoft & Albert 35 ) It must cut 1 wire of PStwo mainboard and solder 6 wires when you installed. Anyway, we will test the new fix on all V12 console with different mod-chip and post the review recently. All the fix functions as following :
1. On boot the pic of the fix waits 1 second for the pstwo to initiate.
2. Check to see if the CD Tray is open, it does IMIDIATE SHUTDOWN PSTwo.
( This is the test mode, which enables to check in anytime if the fix is working )
3. Checks for INT for every 250ms at anytime if INT is high, the pic code jump to watchdog routine.
4. If 1.5 second from boot have passed and the INT is still not active then the PIC CODE mute the
RS2400FS and by that disable any current flow to the lens and to the CD/DVD motors.
5. If 3 seconds from boot have passed the PIC CODE shutdown the pstwo to save the lens.
6. Clip the input tracking signal from the CD/DVD controller to 1.2 voltage (more stable and safe)
well now the world is safest place to mod :)

U'r not flaming :)
that's right, the pic is enough.
I didn't produce this fix, thay did it by them self and decided to put the diode fix as well.
I know the diode fix alone don't worth much , since thay only delay the coils burn process nothing more.
but since thay used the old code insted of the new one, the diodes can help when a crash will happen immidiate on burn while the old code is at 3 sec delay.
the new code is muting the RS2400FS 1.5 second from boot when problems accure. (1 sec is dealy and after that if there is 500 ms of inactivity on the int line it mute the RS3400FS).
I think i'm gonna improve the code a bit more in a way that it will mute the RS2400FS right from the begining (just to make extra shure) and reactive it just when INT is active :)

The attached picture shows how I currently wire up the Comsoft PIC chip with the v3.2 code and the resistors, I do not use a PCB, just wire resistors directly to the PIC chip. I do not fit the 27nF capacitors and I also only add the Summone resistor fix on the Tracking cct. As Comsoft stated his PIC should be enough but I install the tracking resistor as a piece of mind. I used to fit the resistor to the Focus cct but had to remove them to often due to read problems.
It does not take me long to fit the fix and I am not stuck buying the PCB's with old code etc. Once the code as settled down and I will look at buying the PCB solutions. I suppose I could buy the boards and remove and fit update chip with the newer revisions of the code.
I use to use the Matrix diode fix, then the Matrix PIC fix, then the Matrix PIC fic and the Summone fix and now I only use the Comsoft fix and the Summone fix (Tracking only).
I have never experienced a console lock up, so I can not give an opinion if it has saved a console from damage yet. But I always install the Laser fixes first and then ensure that the console resets correctly as per Comsoft test procedure and then finally fit the modchip.
Modarea: Where about did you buy your SOIC zif socket for programming the 12C508A SM part. I can only buy the SOIC zif socket for SN part locally over in my part of the world. I currently use the 12C508A with std DIP package but have to sanded down the top and bottom to reduce the profile of the PIC to get a nice fit between the board and bottom plate.
On a side note does it matter if the resistors are the 1206 or 0805 series? I am currently using the 1206 series due to there higher wattage rating.

U don't need to apply any additional fixes with this one.
u don't need to reduce the current flowing the coils since the fix will shutdown any current to the coils and dvd motors after 50ms of mechanics contoller lockup.

Is Mechanon lockup the only time current increases to the coils ?
Or does it spike for other reasons as well ?

Current is increases in two cases:
1. use of non quality media.
2. mechanics conroller crash..

So many dead???
Man i'm installing my fix since day one and till now no returns
I only had seen it happend on two pstwos with sony lasers. one time while testing with a TDK disk which had lots of scratches and no mechanics contoll happend.
and on the other time it happend to a client and he was burning hes DVDs at 4x speeds.
i can't see how i can improve the fix, since it shutdown all current right after 50 ms of INT crash.
