Hi,
you´ll need three Apps.
1.Mac The Ripper (http://www.ripdifferent.com/~mtr/) to rip the DVD!
2.DVD2One (http://www.dvd2one.com/download.php?PHPSESSID=d0a2b79d0c8263081652a7d49a4 239a9) to shrink the content.
3. Toast (http://www.roxio.com/en/products/toast/index.jhtml) to burn the DVD.
Enjoy

if you are looking for an all in one program...i would recomend Popcorn by roxio...they are the ones who make Toast, program mentioned above...Popcorn will rip, compress and burn the dvd...couple button clicks and your done...start it and leave your mac alone to do its thing

AS e-oni said the above procedure works great
As far as popcorn goes it will not copy and commercial copy protected disk you own until you rip it to your hard drive with other software such as dvd backup or mac the ripper(MTR)
*There are a few movies that have ARccOS protection that require popcorn with MTR
This is a real good site for info
