Evilo, why don't u make an emu for ps2 that works with rom ? :)
Just a thought......

Personally I'd like to have the CD version perfect before other emu's are made. I'm getting tired of almost completed, nearly fullspeed emu's that are discarded because other projects are started. But maybe that's just me.
On another note I'd like to say thanks to Evilo for all his work and effort so far :)

Exactly, rom support is planned, but not before I finish neocd... ;)

and anyway, in the actual version, neocd is not "powerfull" enough to emulate AES/MVS games with both sfx & fm emulation (still need development & optimization, but it should be fixed in next version).

I totally agree, especially on congratulations ;)
also for the fact that it is still possible to buy original NeoGeo CD games on the internet (instead of dl big emupacks :\ on p2p), and sound is better than neogeo aes also
well, NeoCD emulation is on fire right now on the Dreamcast scene! :) hope that it well help you in any way :)
also , I don't have a ps2 right now so I can't compare, but what's the resolution of neocdps2 exactly ? I know that it's 640x480 on DC

Thanks !!

well, regarding last version of the DC one, most of the new stuff is the fame c68k core and the cmz80 core from stef. I cannot reuse the fame 68k core since it's a asm SH4 core (and since the ps2 CPU is different), but I could reuse the new faster z80 C core.

For the rest, I made some good stuff in the wip neopop like triple buffering (thx to drakonite) or moved resampling code to the IOP, that I will put also in neocd and this plus other small stuff should bring it to fullspeed with sound. Maybe I could add a little frameskip also..

don't remember that until the last dc version, we were ahead in terms of performance (without sound the v0.4 emu was much more faster that the dc version, and with sound .. well dc version didn't have sound previously), unfortunately for us, we don't have yet a 68K asm core for the ps2, and this make a big difference !!!

so stay tuned, I'm quite busy in these days with real work & life, but I should soon resume and finish the next version :)

yesss...maybe you'll find what you want here (that's the snk titles coming or already released on ps2):

Samurai Shodown V
Metal Slug 4 & Metal Slug 5 Combo
The King Of Fighters 2002 & 2003
Metal Slug 5
Garou: Mark of the wolves
The Last Blade 1 & 2
Twinklestar Sprites
The King Of Fighters 95,96,97 (3 in 1)
The King Of Fighters 98,99,2000 (3 in 1)

with the NeoGeo stick coming , that's gonna be goooood :)

but it's true that it will never reach the number of NG AES games :\

Mmmm then you are working on 2 emus at the time evilo???

COooool! XD

I hope that you preserve the compatability on the neopop port and then working on the speed emulation... and finallly the filters and other minimal stuff

This days i´ll be waiting for the new releases ;-)

yes, neopop has the same compatiblity level that the original pc version (http://neopop.emuxhaven.net/), i didn't hacked the cpu core to speed it up and so didn't sacrify compatibility.

anyway, neopop is a pain in the ass to get running at fullspeed due to the raster line emulation, but after a lots of efforts, it's now currently able to run all games I've tried at a very good speed and sound is good also (even if not perfect). The only thing missing now is the GUI (only features a basic menu to load games from host rigth now).

Concerning neocd, I didn't work on it so much in these days, but I should release a new version with a very nice speed improvement (more games are fullspeed with sound now, almost no more sound bugs, etc..) for the end of the week . It still didn't use yet the new cz80 core, it's already integrated but I have problem to make it run, so unless I succeed to make it working before the end of the week It will be for the next version as I'd like also to resume work on neopop and make a first release.

so these are the news ;)

that neopop is good, but I think I will better enjoy playing those neopocket games on the real system :P (should arrive next week :) , hope lik-sang delivers fast :D )

But, its great that you plan to make cd emulation even better before add another project.. i would cry if this wonderfull project was discontinued...=(

just sad i suck at programming...would be nice to help!

Well i hope to see a full speed/sound ps2 port of neopop soon.. greets!

PD: neocd ps2 reads cd images burned in the same cd that i burn the emu?

Question: Could the z80 core be useful for some sort of "partial" mame project, e.g. getting some games to run at or close to fullspeed that make use of the processor, like cps1 or Konami games such as Asterix and Devastators ?

I already thougth about it also, and yes it could be definitely used instead of the mame one (if you can interface it correctly with the cpu interface of mame) and hoping that it has the same compatibility level.

wip project ?

It would be great, but maybe my example with the Konami games wasn`t a good one, these games are supposed to have a lot of different configurations with various custom chips. That`s at least what I gathered at System16.com. But CPS 1 would be something I´d already love to see sometime in the distant future. Btw. what about RAINE? Is there a chance this is more portable and the necessary drivers could be ripped of ? I obviously have only a very basic knowledge if any of the technical work involved, but I remember Ian Michael ripped the Lynx emulation from MESS and did some sort of port to the DC, and he along with Quazar (I think) released those single game packs of various Mame games, that`s basicially were I got the idea from.

yes, I also got the CPS1 only DC mame version source code on my hard disk.. i'd also like to start it in a near future, and see also for a derivated system16 version ! and porting it shouldn't take too much time.

we'll see that !

Well, I`m more than happy you do spend your time with NeoCD and the Neopop Emulator, but you know how it is...people are never satisfied ;)

Even if I know no one would take up specific projects I think of, I'm interested in the actual opinions of the people who are doing stuff. At least on a vague level of theory I'd like to get some insight. That' s keeping me from running around and shouting stuff like "N64 Emulator for the DC?" or whatever. ;)
