Hello,

i have just installed the chip and flashed it with firmware V007. Before i install the bootmanager i have a question: is it possible to get back to the original bootmanager if the one from crystal is once installed? If so, please give me a short how-to.
Thank you.

The Crystal Chip boot manager is installed on your memory card. If you want to use the normal ps2 menus, simply remove your memcard before turning on your ps2.

Hello!

I have quite the same question... but my problem is, that the bootmanager is allready in use...

How can I remove the BM from my Chip? I have the latest CC and the latest BM on it, but I would like to boot from the "normal" PS2 Menu as usual.
Is there any way to remove it? The BM is not on the MC.

PS.: I removed it once, but then the Screen went black after rebooting the PS2 again... so I forced a recovery mode to boot the Disc again and installed it, but now I don't know what to do next :(

Hope someone can help me :-pray:

Yes it is, just run the PS2 Browser app in the App Browser. That's not a real application, but only a script which starts the internal $ony boot screen. The PS2 Browser app is installed by default, cause it's used to boot audio CDs.
The Crystal Chip boot manager is installed on your memory card. If you want to use the normal ps2 menus, simply remove your memcard before turning on your ps2.
That's only true for CC1.x chips and like I stated above it's not necessary to remove the MC. The method you describe won't work for the CC2.0, cause BM is installed to the flash.

The CC2.0 won't work without BM atm, like you already noticed. That will be possible with the next software release.
But why the heck do you want to use the original $ony bootup? Not using BM means no way to configure your chip and absolutely no patches (e.g. DNAS, DL) and fixes (e.g. NTSC/PAL), cause all that is provided by BM.

You can archive what you want even now. Just configure the Autoload options to use the PS2 Browser app instead of the default boot method. This way you can have both, all patches/fixes provided by BM and the normal $ony bootup.

EDIT: Just saw that the first two posts were made in 2004, so BrainLazy was absolutely right. There were quite some changes since then, so everything I wrote above applies now.

The thing is, everything went perfect until I updated the system.

I got the modchip a few days ago, and it was possible to boot backups, imports and the normal (in my case Pal) Games.
After the update, I couldn't do anything.

But now I have reinstalled the BM... seems to be your hack :)

Thanks for helping me! The only thing I wanted was the PS2 Browser back :)

Little Edit:

Can I also configurate the BM to be invisible? I mean to direct load it (I changed the options in auto-load, but still its showing up :-/ )

Sounds like you upgraded with the original software, which doesn't support backups and imports. Or something went wrong with the installation. If you install the hacked FW and BM, everything should work fine. If not, try to format the CFlash (format dffs: in MC Manager) before installing anew.

Try changing the autoload delay to 0, that should at least reduce the time you see the BM. But you can't get rid of the CC splash screen.

Just a question about that. If you define an applicaiton to autoboot with BootManager how do go backward ? If each time you launch BM, the application starts, how do you configure BM to stop autoloding the application ?

If you hold the down button on the splash screen, the autoload gets interrupted, that's how I stop the autoload, e.g. to manually select the boot mode. But I must admit that I didn't test it with a delay of 0.

EDIT: Just tested it and the interruption of 0 delay is possible, but I noticed something else. I set the autoload PS2 game to use the PS2 Browser app and tested with a NTSC backup, but the $ony boot screen doesn't load the game, it just resets the console. This results in a continuous loop: BM --> $ony boot --> BM --> $ony boot ... Don't know what the problem is, or if it only applies to NTSC games, but it's really strange.

hm... strange for me too.

In the beginning, I had nothing on the chip, so I didn't saw the BM on startup... but I was able to play everything...

I mean, the BM is really great, but I just want the original back, and play imports and backups just as I wanted to do ;)

But hey, when I do this recovery-mode thing, and the BM is _not_ installed, what happens then? I can still boot imports and so on via the normal PS2 Browser, so that means there should be a way to use the chip without the BM :chinscrat

Or am I wrong?

Must have been an older FW version, one that didn't support installation on the flash.

I still don't get why you want to use the crappy $ony bootup, because it looks nice? BM provides much more features and like I already said, no BM no patches/fixes and no advanced homebrew booting. Maybe you don't care about homebrew, but then I guess you don't know LaunchELF, the perfect solution to backup game saves, or SMS, an avi and mp3 player.

The next software release will support CC2.0 without BM, so you just have to be patient another week or two. But think about it, do you really want to waste the potential of such a great chip?
