View Full Version : This damn serial adapter.....

Okay I have this serial adapter for my computer for broadband. However, ti seems that teh computer is not responding to it though, a connection is there. it is a serial adapter.....male serial and a femal RJ-45. I need someone that knows what to do.....does it need software or something?

exactly however it is not big, like a thumb drive size.....the real problem s that is will not work on windows 95....ill check it on my XP computer tomorrow....please help

dude Serial port for your ethernet? seriously, that must be like 10 years old or something, spend $15 on a USB adapter, I highly doubt the serial can get past like 1mbps ( I may be wrong) but serial is very slow and shitty connection.

definitely go for the USB! or better yet PCI

it is a laptop and i think i will have to get a USb connector anyway....thanks for the help!!!

AFIAK there never were any serial (RS-232) to ethernet (RJ45) adapters. If it really plugs into the serial port, it would more likely just be a cable converter (so you could use some CAT cable between two serial ports over long distances.

There were parallel (printer port) to ethernet adapters for laptops, way back in the Windows 3.11 days, but they usually required an external powersupply.


I'm guessing you have an RJ45 to RS-232 (DB9 or DB25) adapter.
