I dont know if any of you have noticed, but the Matrix Infinity/ Matrix web site has also been updated and now supports V12 consoles

Yeah we noticed. I think it's a GREAT chip. I very please that they did not drop support for the Matrix Infinity. Unlike the DMS team leaving their DMS3/+ customers dry, and moving on to DMS4 to make some more $$$.

split this thread away from the news forum. I think its extremely obnoxious and rude to post about a rival modchip in a news post about another. Next time just wait for a moderator to post news about the mod so you can discuss it there.

Install doesen't look too bad at all. Just waiting for the prices to drop a bit because no one down here is willing to pay for any of the pstwo chips plus install.

Anyone know of any dealer selling the chip already with 1.36 on it for psTwo?

Me. :D :p

But since I'm on Brazil, just the shipping costs will make this chip a little more expensive, so it's worth to locally ships.

Well, I don't got PSTwo here yet. I do this one: I put Infinity on old PS2 and updated, when done, I removed and installed another one, until have all my Infinities updated. Right now, I have just 10 (ten) Infinities here.

I'll get a PSTwo in a week or two now. I was waiting for this before to buy a PSTwo.

But could be your CD-R, burn at 8x max, better if 4x. Don't use Nero, is pretty bugged! And also, use a new memory card, with no file at all on it, not even the PSTwo config file. Did you used twist pair on Y point (clock) ?

Gradius

PS: I'm assuming you did this instructions below:

Preparing the Memory Card:
--------------------------

1) Burn Infinity Manager V1.36 to CD following the procedure explained inside the .zip file.

2) Make sure the memory card is formatted and inserted in the V1-V11 PS2.

3) Insert the Infinity Manager CD in the V1-V11 PS2, press reset and wait for the Infinity Manager program to finish loading.

4) Go to "Memory Card Manager" and select "Install Infinity Manager". After "Install Succeded" appears on screen, turn off the PS2 and remove the memory card.

The Memory Card is now ready and can be used to upgrade as many PsTwo as you like with the new V1.36 firmware.

Upgrading the PSTWO:
--------------------

1) Install Infinity into the PsTwo following the installation diagrams.

2) Insert the memory card into the PsTwo and turn it on by pressins reset once.

3) Press and keep pressed the "TRIANGLE" button during boot to launch the Infinity Manager from the memory card.

4) On the main screen, select "Update Firmware" and follow the onscreen instructions to update the Infinity firmware.

3) When the "Upgrade Succeded" message appears on screen, you can turn OFF the PsTwo and remove the memory card.

The PsTwo is now ready to be used.

Just wondering... your Infinity has been updated to firmware v1.35 before to installing on PSTwo or was an older version ?

Could be this one.

Im interested in buying a PStwo and modding it...

is there any way to flash the Infinity BIOS without a PS2 memory card (with Infinity Manager) formated on a V1-11 PS2 ?

I'm gussing no since the firmware isnt on the mod to begin with...

windex
10-26-2004, 11:48 PM
i don't think so. I am also planning on getting a pstwo. I think we have to wait until the next batch of infinity chips, with the new firmware reaches stores.

well if u can isntall it in a v1-v11 before putting it in the pstwo u can flash it and it'll work .

I dont know if this is the right forum, I hope so. If not I am sorry.

I bought this chip and tried to put it in my V1 PS2 but the V1 died so I took it out of the V1 and put it in the V12.

I had the chip installed (I think) and the PS2 immediately went to the regular sony screen. I burned the CD Image from the infinitymod site, and put it in the drive and restarted. Still nothing.

So I then rewired a few things and now the screen is all black... The system is booting up and the laser is working but its not giving me any video or sound...

I guess I will just retry the wiring again tomarrow and see what happens.

A question I have is: Do I have to have a Memory Card and the chip put in a different earlier version PS2? I have no access to any other modded PS2 and I dont know where my memory card is.

Maybe you're not fit to mod PS2s. Try taking the chip out to see if the PS2 is still working. How would it work in the V12 when the chip is not flashed with the lastest firmware? Even if you did not flash the chip with the lastest firmware you should still be able to get the PS2 bootup screen. I recommend you send your PS2 to someone, cause if you broke 2 ps2s then it's possible a 3rd one will die too.

Only one PS2 died, it was a V1.

I will take it out tomarrow though. I was at one point at the regular PS2 bootup screen but then I got a suggestion to recheck the install and did. I must have screwed up some connection.

I wonder if there is a reseller out there that will sell me it pre-flashed to 1.36 :S

foundmy
10-27-2004, 02:05 AM
nvidia247: yes it will be possible, we are looking at changing them all to v1.36 immediately. but we need time to make sure. We don't want to do anything with soldering too many wires...

10-27-2004, 02:40 AM
Ok thanks for the responce, i'll be pacient just as the other curious potential buyers ;)..

And i heard that the next batch of Infinity's will be pre-flashed to 1.36 anyways so, this wont be a problem for long.

Ok, this is whats happening with me. I have no access to a PS2 with a Matrix Infinity (other than my v12) to do the memory card thing that people have been talking about.

I think I installed the chip correctly. The PS2 just boots to the regular sony PS2 screen.

What I have done is, put the CD-ROM (i burned with nero at 48x on memorex 52x CD-R, the image provided in the update rar) in the drive. I then reset the console and still went back to the PS2 screen. I dont konw what I should be doing, if anything. If someone could help me I would really really appreciate it. If you want me to make a new thread I will

PS, I checked the install and everything looked good.

There's nothing you could do other than get a memory card from someone with matrix infinity manager inside their memory card which consist of the 1.36 update. You cannot boot the cdrom when you have no pstwo support...

Is there any hard ware that would allow me to copy that stuff over to a memory card I have and then insert into my PS2? Preferrably something I could pick up at a store and not have shipped.

T07N
10-27-2004, 05:44 PM
Nope. What you can do is send your mc to someone install matrix memory card manager. It shouldn't cost you anymore than $10 to have it shipped back and forth with USPS Priority Flat Rate Envelope. Find a friend with a modded PS2 if possible.

flashing from the memory card not always work if u have an old firmware on the chip

T07N
10-27-2004, 06:04 PM
What do you mean? Isn't the Infinity 1.36 gonna be on the memory card? How is that old firmware? I don't understand your post. Please elaborate.

Thinkdiff
10-27-2004, 06:30 PM
He means some of the older firmwares for the infinity can not boot off the mem card, therefore they can't install the firmware.

backoff34
10-27-2004, 06:32 PM
So even if i get the firmware update on a memory card it may not work?

Thinkdiff
10-27-2004, 06:33 PM
depends on the firmware on the chip. Most matrix infinities should come with 1.21 or 1.2.. since 1.2 it has been able to boot the infinity manager off the mem card.

T07N
10-27-2004, 06:40 PM
I see, well that would suck.

It's pretty easy to know if you have v1.2 or up, on chip you should read:

Actel
ProASIC PLUS
APA075-F
TQ100 0417

IF they are from 0411 and up, they are ALL firmware v1.2 or v1.21, or better.

Gradius

PS: 04 = year (2004). 17 = weeks (on 17th week).

Gradius
10-27-2004, 08:02 PM
In case someone ask...

Yes, I installed 0411 yesterday and it was firmware v1.2 (confirmed).

Gradius

PS: 11 = March 2004.

Thinkdiff
10-27-2004, 08:05 PM
I can confirm that. I had a 0411. it was 1.2

Gradius
10-27-2004, 08:10 PM
Heheh, no wonder Loy's chip was v1.0... it was 0406 (pretty old indeed).

Gradius

loy
10-27-2004, 08:11 PM
that explains my chip didn't work by flashing it by memory card. 0406 infinity

Confirmed! Infinity v1.36 is 100% compatible with PAL consoles as well.
