check out this idea....
buying a second nonworking PS2 and cutting the top out of it an mounting the working one down inside of it....
adding a swap bay for a second HDD, 4 port powered USB hub, 4 port iLink hub, drive selector switch and modding the crap out of it to be all pretty....
this should give you an idea of what I want...

you would double up the height, is that what you mean by cutting the top out of it and mounting the working one inside? because you would have to do something like that to have enough room.... there isn't really that much room inside the ps2 so you'd have to add some if you wanted to have two hdds, plus some pretty good cooling

yeah... that extactly... the bottom half of the working unit would fit down into the top half of the shelled system.... and give me an extra 2 inches of space on the bottom of the system.... for the second drive and cooling setup... plus a second PS2 PSU would run the lights and crap.... I'm sure it can be done... and with ease.... but I can't drop $200 bucks on that right now.... so I'll buy a few things here and there to complete it.
zabolyx

OH YEAH
forgot to mention... the LEDs in the two bottom buttons from the shelled system will be a HDD activity light and a NA activity light... I'll probaly change the colors of them too.... I'd like to use reand and a yellow one.
I also liked the MC access lights that have been floating around here... anyone have tried this on a MAD CATZ MC.... That's what I have.... and soon plan on getting a Datel 64MB card (and this one should be fun to work on as well).
Tempted to get some fiber optic wires to do some interesting things as well... can get small bundles for cheap at the loacal $1 store here in town.... have those little flashlights with them on it...each fiber about 8-12 inches long and about 30 to a light....

that was nonproductive.... can't find a thing online....no even at the stores website.

thinking to mod the ps2 casein similar way , but to use multiple drives.
basically i ll get/make a cable from back of the ps2 to the nework adaptor connector and put a drive selector switch in between.
xbox got 3 x 200 GB harddrives in external case with switch.
hehe
figureing out ps2 connector layout is going to be a pain in the azz.
anyone with schematics of the adaptor port layout or a layout or internal pics of the ps2 network adaptor.

I was thinking of doing a three drive setup.... but the IDE cable craps out the signal at about 6 inches (15cm).... so I'm doing a dual drive one permenent and one in the swap bay.... should be able to keeep the cable down to 3 - 4 inches (7.5 - 10cm).....
also I'm hoping I can find the right shaped USB and iLink hubs to use... found what I think will work for a USB for $10....

seal... is that an access light or just powered on all the time?
I'd like to have an access light that blinks when in use....power is not a problem just tapping into the power connector...

p2Modder what did you do about the USB ports and iLink.... I can't see the images very well...... and did you put in removable drive bay?
I think I'll get a patent for text from left to right... so everyone in the world will have to pay to read and write...

yeah..... OK...
so has anyone tried to cut (and suceeded) a window in the flip top cover (hope someone HAS had this idea).... I'd like to know if they had probs and what kinds.... I'm thinking of cutting a round window out of it and placing the center where the magnet is back into the window....I wanna see the pretty disc spin...

ooh...ooh...IDEA!
between the 2 systems placing a layer of plastic... the kind used in battery displays at Wal-Mart.... gaithers light from the top and shines nice and bright on it's edges....
finding a sheet of blue plastic for this.... so inthe middle of the system cuts a blue light all around it.... so on the diagram just under the first top half and above the second top half the plastic would be wedged in there.... I think it would work... of course it would have to be cut to fit and then lit with LEDs... but it would be cool.

LOL :D
well i stole someone's internal IR idea... is that bad?
and then sony stole our internal IR idea!!! on the v9's ! the barstards! :p
zabolyx
11-02-2004, 09:29 PM
where did you get the IR mod idea?.... for the DVD remote right? Me like, do that.. to me system.

11-02-2004, 09:32 PM
also thought about integrating a multitap into the system... using a switch to convert the 1st and 2nd controller ports to 1A and 1B... and having 1C and 1D where the USB hub is at... then placing the HUB down lower....haven't put a lot of thought into it though... gues I could at least open my multitap and take a gander at its workings.

LOL i had that multi tap idea tonight too x!! look at my super ps2 case mod lol.. and the IR one i talked to this guy about.. anyone figure out how to do that? id like to do that to my v2....

nice diagram , what'd u use to design the diagram?
and when will u work on it?
zabolyx
11-05-2004, 02:22 AM
buying the flip top next week.... and the no solder mod chip.... and then I need to find a dead PS2 for the bottom half.... going to start asking round at the pawn shops for returned units... and rental places... and used game shop here in town.... that will be a pain in the butt...
I'll start cutting the color bar and working on the custom lighting controls soon too... have to do a few odd jobs for some extra dough... BJ's and stuff... LOL
and I used a fun little program NeoPaint.... Not very powerful.. but simple enough

hy , u might be lucky, ill have an empty ps2 case by tomorrow, ur intrested , let me know
EspI69
11-05-2004, 03:10 AM
and i have a question , how are u gonna put the multi tap in that position? ... wont the bottom half of the top ps2 will occupy that space?
zabolyx
11-05-2004, 03:20 AM
I've been thinking about it... and it should fit... I might have to cut into the bottom half to make the back 1/8 inch fit... but I've checked the depth of the Multitap unit and its maybe a third of the width of the unit itself. should work... if not I will cry.... then shoot my PS2
EspI69
11-05-2004, 03:23 AM
if it does nto fit, then u can either , take out the PSU and HD case for the top ps2 and put it in the bottom have and have a nice gap in the middle for the multi tap.... another words switch the layers and have a space between the motherboard and bottom have

yup thought of this ages ago (but never attempted)
my plan was to canabalize the multitap.. and mod in 4 memory cards (20 usd ea. of ebay)
that way you have internal 4 memory cards!! :o
but then the hdd got realased. and yeah. that's kind of better

you also have to realize, that is nto my ps2. that is just the case that houses the cdrom drive, 2 hdds, powersupply, 10 in 1 card reader, fan controller and the usb hub. it also might hold the wireless 802.11g adapter.

Went to my local trade a game shop (Game eXchange) and inquired about a crap system for modding purposes.... and it looks promising... negotations seem to point at $10 - $15 for the case and PSU....
As for documentation... I plan on finallizing my plans and making a DOC on it... will probably make a PDF out of it... and post for all to see.... Like I had said will take some time to complete being that my broke a$$ has no dough to spend on this... so little things here and there....
Also... I just might use only one HDD.. in the swa bay only... was thinking just how heeavy the sys is now and figured that the extra drive in the unit is not ness. if I plan on using a swap bay.... so I'll have an extra bay for something later... who knows
ps2modder... it's all fun and games... till I lose an eye. we hopefully share to help and incourage others to follow our footsteps.... I may copy others.... and I expect others to do the same of my stuff.... just like music, every riff has been played before.

Updated the Concept Drawings....
Now as close to scale as I can make them without a freaking caliper. And if you feel like a idiot you can print out the images and build a paper model of it... I'm an idiot... :)
So I have decided to remove the primary HDD and use jut the swap bay... putting an identical bay in my PC... make working on the drive easier.
Added MC activity lights above the MC slots... should work with both PSX (PSOne) and PS2 MCs. Corrected a few errors with the images...
Features:
1. HDD Swap bay
2. DVD Sensor built-in
3. Multi-Tap Built-in
4. iLink 4 port hub built-in
5. USB 4 port powered hub built-in
6. No Solder MOD chip
7. Flip-top case lid
8. Window on top with engraved PS2 logo
9. Window on bottom to show cooling system
10. Extra cooling fans
11. Custom Lighting system
12. Color bar between 2 PS2 top halves (Custom Lighting)
13. MC Custom Lighting
14. Front panel HDD Activity LED
15. Front panel NA Activity LED (Still checking on)

So my local trade a game shop wants $5 for the PS2 case.... sweet... but I'm not wanting to shell out $15 for a used PSU... so I'll just get the case for now... I'll try talking them down a bit...

So I got my case and starting to slice and dice over the holiday.... should have some fun doing so and a few pics as well.... still typing up the DOC as I go... will post it after completion of the project.
