why do you need a tut?
just take the plastic cases off the ps2 and xbox with LOTS OF CARE that theres no way for them to short circuit with the metal pc case! i suggest putting plastic lining inside the pc case.
just put a power splitter inside etc.. but why do all this? you would need 2 power switches etc.. and it's not as if it would work like a universal system

The xbox is already in the case,There is lots of extra space so I want my ps2 integrated aswell, I want a tut because I want to see what others have done!

why can't you just leave those cases alone rather than opening those consoles and putting it on a bloody PC case there's no point of doing that, u trying to make a time machine or something... and anyway if u don't like the cases, it might be an idea to just do a make-over on those cases like putting a Pokemon Logo on ur PS2 or stuff a picture of Elvis presley on the Xbox

Good question..I have two answers.
1..Gearing up for the next gen consoles coming very soon...Xbox/Ps2 are pretty much on their final cycle...I also plan to add my Dreamcast...possibly my gamecube to this case...And I'll tell you right now..it'll be better than any Yoshi-box I've ever seen.
2..I am expecting my first child in the next month...My wife figured I should clear the clutter..I agreed.
putting a Pokemon Logo on ur PS2 or stuff a picture of Elvis presley on the Xbox
I really don't care much for Pokemon nor Elvis...But thanks for your input.

i think what we're trying to say is that the case is actually not going to clean up anything...
you'll have 4 power sources, 4 mobos, 4 controller bays, a crapload of controllers hooked up, and one hell of a time rigging it up to A/V. you would need the really big 5 or 8 system A/V switches in the box too and a way to switch power to the different PSUs along with a way to turn on power to each individual console.
the worst problem would be drives.. PS2 DC XBOX and GC is 4 disc drives, 2 front loading 2 top loading...
honnestly, if i succeeded in puting it all in a pc case, i would seriously hide the insides and not have any portholes because thats gonna be one hell of a wiring job :wow:

hehe nah helltick your idea is very cool :) how many spare cdrom bays do you have left? do you have your xbox switches and controller ports mounted on the panel behind your door of the case?
do you have most of the xbox hardware mounted on the floor of the case / above the pwoersupply, or wherever?
i take it there is enough space to fit... i would recommend mounting the CDROm aseembelly and the whole ps2 into the TOP section, maybe in a few drive bays, you might have to move your cdrom and/or xbox hardware for this...
you will also have to consider cooling. i would reccomend water cooling for the pc + ps2, then independant cooling for the xbox...
otherwise fan cooling could present a noise issue.. my case has 7 fans cause i can't offord a water pump and blocks so it's very noisy.. if you turn all the fans up to high, it sounds like a vacuum cleaner (esp the CPU fan.. i really have to get a silent one now that i'm over overcloking)
oh.. and GET WIREING LOOM.. the black stuff.. it's your friend! :D
i'll try and get a picture.. *looks through pictures folder*

Like Helltick, I'm also interested in finding a tut on howto put a ps2 into a PC case - and before all you pc-case-haters start babbling about how "ugly" you believe it'll look; I'm only doing it because I want a NO-noise PS2! I'm sick and tired of those noisy stock fans that Sony decided to fit into their console.
So anyone with a tut-link or ideas: plz post :-pray:

i'm not sure there's anything like a tutorial that anyone could right up.. it would require a lot of improvisation to put a ps2 in a pc case! :D you would have to.. well i don't even know where you would start... the ps2 uses funny mounting screws/position so there wouldn't be a single easy way to do it..

I just need help with the dvd-drive extension..from what I remember its a short ribbon cable that connect to mobo along with some simple wires.
Controllers are no problem as they will be wireless with dongles concealed within the case.
ANY link/tut would be very helpful.
TIA

that's true about the ribon cables. you may be able to extend them using some thing wire like the standard kynar you use for modding... just make sure the wires are kept close to eachother as possible by twisting them around eachoter to make 1 big wire (if you get what i'm saying :p)

Thanks for the help.. :)
I know how much work is involved in this project. I have done other mods involving dvd/mobo extensions such as my GC pic below.

:O well you should have no problems with the ps2 then.. you may want to soldier directly onto the terminals of the ribon cable..

shit , thats gonna be a big job , man i wish u luck... i would recommend that u draw out diagrams and igure most of it out on paper, loks of math and measurments , this way it cuts your work in half when u start the project.. approach it from every angle and make sure u have sum funds if u have to run out and by sumthing i wish i was there to help man , id enjoy that project

Well I searched high and low for a tutorial...No luck.
I decided to go for it myself and see what I can do with these ribbons.
Right now my ps2 is sprawled all over my coffe table...I have 4 very short ribbons off my dvd-drive, 3 are very simple to extend...but the fourth..that 28 pin cable is very difficult if not impossibe to extend by hand soldering...this ribbon go's from laser to mobo with pins 1/64 of an inch apart 28 connections each side..thats 56 taps with the iron..Waste of time!
I got a new plan...mount ps2 mobo at top of case directly above dvd so ps2 will eject discs from the top/first bay...This requires a simple fold to ribbon to allow for the dvd to function adjacent or at right angles to its original position.
This will work as planed.

my ps2 is basically is a computer...
7 in 1 usb card reader

1 fanmaster controller
1 80mm colling fasn
5 90mm cooling fans
50 LEDS
wireless keyboard and mouse
cd-rom drive
glow wire
still needs a littile work though....

thats a messy ass install lolol... tiddy up the wires of that sexy chip/lol
thats a smart idea placing the ps2 side ways with the drive also sideways... i didnt even think about it , but that would make perfect sense..... while your doing it , take pics and take notes so u can do a toutorial

Thanks, but that is really the least of my concerns right now.
The hardest part ot put a ps2 in pc case is to rewire the laser since it's so many points. Umm after u do that everythign else is straight forwared. For the controllers u can use the cables from v1-v3 they are obiously longer. but dont' know is it's long enough. For the lasr u can try the new pstwo lasers their ribbon i a bit longer but not a long as i think u want it

Well a little update here..I have ps2 working in the position i want for the case ...I used a peace of k-3 board to mount to case and bolted the dvd to mobo...This is completely reversible in case I want to go back.
I am very pleased so far..but still lots of work ahead.

I will use xbox dvd drive more...mainly for its awesome media center/player...So I figured it should take first position up top.
I like the ps2 verticle and will add 1/2 inch blue bars each side of dvd using plexi and a few blue leds I have kicking around.
I am still undecided as to where to put power/eject for ps2...xbox uses power/eject on the case...So I'll have to come up with something there.
I may or may not have external ps2 controller ports...I'm thinking wireless controllers with dongles concealed within the case...I have converted xbox controllers to use the two usb ports at bottom of the case.
ANY suggestions are very much appreciated...I'm a noob at this too!

If you get that working, that will be one sexy mod! I wish I could do something like that, but I don't really trust myself.... Oh well, good luck and hope everything works out!
Also go for the New Logitech PS2 wireless controllers. I have the first version of the Logitech controllers and those are great, but the v2 controllers are smaller and look more like the official controllers. ( I'm picking up 2 of these myself later on)

Okay...looks like I'm on my own here. Very little progress today, mainly just some decorating...I found some bubble tubes in the discount bin at my local pc shop, I figured it might save me some time...Wrong! By the time I modified them for my particular application I could have built them faster and cheaper...Oh well live and learn.
I also picked up a couple wireless controllers for a decent price...I havent opened them yet so if anyone knows if these are garbage please reply.

Well...Small update here. I ran into some trouble with the height of the ps2...I had to start from scratch :(
http://members.shaw.ca/mikesps2/01.jpg
This was a major fuckup on my end..I knew I had to grind the dome off the underside of Xbox dvd..However I wasnt expecting the ribbon that needs the slack.
I had to drop everthing 1/2 inch...Big setback! Needless to say my two floppy covers that housed my ps2 switches was fucked...had to make a new one :(
http://members.shaw.ca/mikesps2/02.jpg
Anyway its all good now...ps2 and xbox eject perfect..trial and error...just cant believe I missed that one
Modchip for ps2 is up and running...boots backups fine...Xbox has flashed tsop.
http://members.shaw.ca/mikesps2/03.jpg
In the pic below you can spy that fuck'n ribbon from xbox dvd that brought me to a stone wall..Lol
http://members.shaw.ca/mikesps2/04.jpg
I thought that lower dome was to prevent pin-headers ...I'm an Idiot..Idiot..Idiot!
Anyway I learned something the hard way and set me back an entire weekend...But they run really smooth now...All is well.

if you use AV cables to plug into your TV, you should splice the ps2, xbox and GC cables together and put 1 output panel in the back to plug into like a receiver. as long as only 1 system is on at once, the signal will be fine (i've tested this many times). :)

Thanks..But Xbox uses HD and Ps2 uses stanard RCA.
where is the GC?
I decided to say fuck the GC...I never use it...It's for sale BTW.
I made some progress this week...Got everything all wired up.. and again did further extensive testing of both consoles.

I found a good place to mount ps2 controller ports..Then added the two memory cards and RF wireless controller dongles.

Both Ps2 and Xbox Dvd-drives eject and operate as expected.

right now its just on a bare blue wall...I bought it off ebay for $500..not bad for 1200 lumens and only 120 hrs on its 2000 hr lamp..I'm very impressed.
When buying..search for replacement lamps as they can be very costly..to replace my lamp will be $250, thats reasonable for 2000 hrs.

since u seem hady with all the mods,, couldnt u buy a cheaper lamp and just solder it on to the contacts and use any lamp which fits reasonable, seems like it would work if done right, plus it might save u alot of cash

I have found them online for $250-$350 which is only 12.5-17.5 cents per hour..seems pretty reasonable to me...I'd rather pay for the right lamp than risk blowing up my projector or possibly burning my house down.
I always keep an eye open on ebay for replacements...Maybe I'll get lucky.
