Hey,
Awhile ago I added two bright blue LEDs to my PS2 (5v each, running from USB power). They are in front of the grill in the front of the PS2. However they are not very spread out and don't light up the entire grill like I had hoped. Anybody have suggestions on where to place the LEDs or something to put into the PS2 to make the light look more spread out?
u could put more leds Or either has somethign to spread the light like plastic

i was thinking of putting a small layer of plastic over the grill, but I'm scared that will cause overheating.. maybe I could cut a section out of it to allow for some airflow.
Would adding more LEDs in parrallel (so each gets 5Vs) cause damage to the USB ports at all?

You could look up the USB 1.1 specs and get an idea of how much current is available to power the LED's (I'm thinking 250-500mA per port). Or you could mount the LED's more towards the rear of the PS2 so that the light can illuminate the entire inside of the bottom half of the case.

I don't think there's anywhere I can mount them in the back.. The powersupply and the HD "cage" gets in the way. My Maxtor HD isn't full size, so maybe I can mount that side's LED a little bit further back.

You could use a strip of plexi-glass and have a LED on each end facing at each other.

(Hope you understand)
Or maybe a clear straw, whatever length you want and stick a LED in each end facing each other. (Never tried it seems like it would work, let me know how it turns out.)

That's exactly what I was thinking with the plexiglass.. only problem would be possible overheating..

so use a strip of plexi glass but wit cuts in it ,like with small sections missing so it does not prevent air flow... something like this ( almost liek a prision gate with the bars) ( the "a" represents the spaces of air flow)

Or just use a thin strip that would not totaly block the intake. Remember there are also slots up under the overhang that draw in air so even if you blocked the front grill it would still be able to bring in air.

there are ligth reflecting plastics... you've probably seen them in battery displays at the store.... gather light in the top and concentrates it out the sides.... you might try this... if you can get blue and use a white LED to iluminate it.... this is an awesome idea... I just might throw sonething like this into mine.... I also was thinking of using some fiber optics for lighting....but first I need to setup the functional part of the mod that I want to do.

couldn't u just use glossy silver paint for the inside then it would reflect the light more?
