View Full Version : m/c booting ps2 cdr

found this out accidentally, thought I'd share it, although I'm not so sure what our mods will think.... (so I'm asking?)
anyway, whoever made HDAdvacne, also incuded a special "BOOT.ELF" that helps it (anything in the m/c called "HDA.ELF") load. Well, I tried burning it to cd-r that way, but instead of booting the HDA.ELF on the cd-r with it, it booted the one in my m/c, instead, so: we can use this ps2 cd-r to boot any elf named "HDA.ELF" in the exploit, instead of a psx title that has to be specified in TITLE.DB, for those who can't do that.
rename elf to boot "HDA.ELF" this ps2 cd-r boots it.
MODS: this is not an HDLOADER, or HDADVANCE, just the booter borrowed from HDA, mastered on a ps2 cd-r, not meant to use for HD loaders, per say, just intended as a substitute for a psx original "exploit" boot disc. Legal?

so you just saved this boot mc.rar to a cd-r and it booted?
kinnda lost ,please explain more in depth

yeah, any file in your mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM mc save named HDA.ELF, this ps2 cd-r boots it up as an alternative to a SPECIFIC psx title, thought it might be useful. So if you have one exploit file on the mc, with both a boot.elf and an hda.elf, you could boot either with either the psx title or this.

I see...but to load that boot disc, you'd still need a chip or to perform a swap...I'm not seeing the advantage here...
Rotosound_rb666

the advantage is that I don't have to add psx titles for everyone, anymore, and if you have a modchip, then you have to boot psx title booter in psx mode, where as if you boot an hddloader from this, in normal ps2 mode, you can then use your chip to rip backups and imports to your hdd in the ps2, from that menu, it works in ps2 mode, but not in the psx mode you need to boot the exploit with a psx title.
plus you can boot one of 2 elf's from the same exploit, if there's a need to.

rename the loader HDA.ELF in the exploit, and use that cd-r I posted. use Jum's exploit installer cd kit, unpack this so it becomes C:\EXPLOIT, (not C:\EXPLOIT\EXPLOIT\) open the dcgenps2 with the .ps2 project save, then open the subdirectory FILES in the cdgenps2 window, so you see IPCONFIG.DAT and 3 IRX files, and add your renamed (to) HDA.ELF (or any BOOT.ELF to be run by psx title) there, click image, and burn the resaulting image to cd, that installs the exploit.

boot mc is a ps2 cd-r that will boot instead, any file in the mc system conf file named HDA.ELF, if hdloader is all you want rename it to HDA.ELF and get it into your mc.
EXPLOIT is not yet a burnable cd, but the program to master it, with a save file that I layed out for you so that YOU can add your own files, as well as the rest of the files needed to make it complete, open the save, drop in your elves, and click IMAGE, then you have an image file, that'll upload your mc with whatever you want. Any elf you rename HDA.ELF can be launched with that first ps2 cd-r, or name it boot elf and use a psx original, if you stick in your own title.db with that on it.

ok , i added the 2 files and burned them all onto one cd, with HD loader and it instaled the expolit/ no psx cd or swap needed at all!!!! , in just installed my 40 gb HD and ps2 network adapter.... now how do i launch HDloader and formatt the HD and install games to the HD?

confusing me.. the exploit installer has to be swapped or something to run the installation, then the first disc I put up, the point of the thread is that this ps2 cd-r will substitute for the psx original to start whatever elf in the exploit is named HDA.ELF, unless you have a psx title to use instead, the right titles will execute the BOOT.ELF in the exploit, that's all. Originally the BOOT.ELF for HDA was the one that's on the cd-r, which boots mc0:\BADATA-SYSTEM\HDA.ELF no matter where that boot elf is booted from itself, run it from the same directory in the mc like they made it for, or run it from the cdrom, it does the same thing.
the gs2 psx disc will execute the boot.elf
Rotosound_rb666

that was the point, was that if I burn that boot elf to cd, it boots mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/HDA.ELF, every time

Ok, on my mem card I have KeyLauncher as Boot.Elf and HDA.ELF. It works fine using my Tony Hawk 2 disc, but when I try this boot mc thing in PS2 mode, it just stops at a black screen and sounds like it's reading frmo the CD. Nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

not sure, I only tried it with another hdloader app, I get the black screen wihout the m/c, but the custom-screened hdloader app that I stuck in that mc i tried, and did'nt back up, not the same one I tried putting on the disc, thinking it'd boot like that, runs if the mc i put it on is present in slot 1. has to be booting it from the mc, and does it every time. make your loader the HDA.ELF, and the the other boot elf, so if you want the menu, and the options you use tony hawk psx, but if you want to boot the hdloader straight (and if you have a modchip, and want to boot the mc without using psx mode, so you can rip backups to your hdd, it's very useful for that) I don't know if it's good for anything, to everyone, but if you have a chip, or no psx disc, it's handy to know it works, and how... I can't think of any other way to boot an exploit with a ps2 disc, or many reasons why, but it can be done, that's all, thought I'd share that discovery.
ok...but why not just put the program on the cd?

look, I don't think like you guys seem to, it's not about "what do I get out of this?", or, "how can I use this to get something out of this?", for me it's "what can I, or have I learned from this, what does it mean as far as programming goes, and does anyone else have any ideas about what we can use it for?" a dude once came up with brilliant idea (not mine, but I made it so) about remastering the cdloader to the "dvdloader" to aid swappers with version 7's, and games swap magic wont boot, because it simplified the swap process some... well I took that even further, and did my gameshark to dvd so that I would'nt have to do the "mirra trick", and the other crap it takes to boot a dvd-r from gs2, just to get the codes on. Great Idea, even if I was inspired by someone else's. What did I get out of it? nothing, I had a modhcip, then, and developers conoles, now, it's not about that. those of us who make this stuff up as we go, usually do it just because, I don't need to do a lot of the things I've done or come up with, but I still do it, and if it were'nt for some of us doing everything for all of you, because we like to, not because we need to personally, where would you all get your freebies?

i like that fact that your trying to help us all out...i just need to get a better understanding of this so i can begin to alter it here and there and be able to just have one disc that will install the exploit and also boot it.

well, if the ps2 booter disc fails, it's not a waste, assuming that the exploit installer cd kit is new to some of you, or we would'nt be talking about that, so lets take this in that direction, heres my TITLE.DB, with the titleman.exe tool, and a couple of pre written windows batch files to go with, put all that in one directory and click "whatson.bat", that'll list all the psx title codes, although by the codes, not names, that I have on there. This is what you all can do for yourselves, and for me: Right click on the add-a-game.bat file and select EDIT, you'll see whatever was the last SLUS_123.45 from a psx game that I added, the idea is simple, just replace that with psx titles you have, all caps, 4 caps, uncerscore, 3 digits, dot, 2 digits... make it just the same way I did, SAVE it, and click it again to add your own psx titles to it, I added the command PAUSE to those so that they remain open so you can read the resaults, until you hit any key. Add all of the psx titles you all can, and ammend it for me, too, I have two psx originals, both interact cheat discs, a us gs2 psx, and an AR2 psx for my Japanese consoles, ALL the rest have been added on an as needed for everyone I've done this for basis, so the more we alll collectively add to a single TITLE.DB to keep posted, the more versatility, and better odds that any dummy downloading our work will have one of them, already. The exploit you installed is good, just go ahead and get your psx shit together, anyway, if nothing else, some of you just learned to burn an exploit installer, even if I did put that together for you, that's how you'll learn it, and now you can exparament with exploits and what you can get them to do for you.

i would rather get it to boot with a non psx cd, simply because id liekto be able to have it in ps2 mode so i can save imports and backups to my hard drive. i managed to install a wester digital HD that did not fit the adapter by opening up the adapter and moving the molex power port and leaving it un screwed, then bending the metal till i had extra room for the molex to move over about 3millimeters. these made it possible to hook up to my 120gig HD. i need to find a way t be able to use the mothod that your using so all my backups can fit on my 120gb HD.

I hear you, all I can say is the one I "wasted" finding out that using that booter on the cd would boot the hda.elf in the mc instead, does that every damn time, boots the mc, not from the disc. try running a normal exploit first, see I never got the HDloader I prefer (and hacked my own screens into) would absoulutely not boot from the exploit, so I was stuck with the original HDAdvance as an wxploit, on account of their "boot.elf" booter/helper, so I renmamed HDLoader to HDA, like that one, and stuck in that booter, and whoa and behold, I got it to boot right up as an exploit. running that booter on a cd-r that way, though still booted the mc, even when run from the cdrom, go figure, that's about what I have that I know for sure, that booter boots the mc file HDA.ELF.

I had to do that to a WD 40 I had around, too. Try renmastering your games, your mastering likely doesnt need to be perfect, and wont ever be burned to an optical disc, if you have no dvd writer, who cares, but use the sony cd-dvd gen to remaster the files on the disc t yourself, and you can ignore optical disc rules like forcing the boot file to a higher lba, so it's not too near the center, and it's those kinds of things that make the discs so much longer than they need to be... there's only 2.4gb on devil may cry.. mine anyway. onimusha 3 went from over 4 to just like 1.3, and so on.

question:
ok since i installed an exploit to my MC with a HDA.elf filw.... then the boot MC cd-r should work and just boot the exploit .... but it doesnt....theres gotta be away todo this... is there any way that you can put send me (aim/aol) that you have. meaning like your exact files so i can just burn it exactly as it is to see if that would work im thinking maybe my exploit is messed up... i have the sjeep version and it only installs the exploit if i burn it with the boot mc.rar u posted.

AMMENDMENT: there is one differance between the cd I originally posted (a remake) and the one I made here that booted the mc, and that was that I did this on accident, trying to toss together a cd that would boot hda from there, it but it booted the mc one, instead (tested that with HDA.ELF's that all ahve different screens inserted, and are on different mc's, all booted the one an the mc, every time) but that's that I have an HDA.ELF on my original "accident" cd, although it's never booted it from there, and the one I posted does not, since it would be a waste, it doesnt boot up from there, and it violates the house rules if I did, but that's the only differance between them, try copy it to the cd-r as well, perhaps. mine is the hdd booter for my sisters magic 3.1 modded version 7 I use to rip backups to hdd. It's PERFECT for that.
