Hdlcfg is a Japanese tool for customising HDLoader.

http://atnek-2121.hp.infoseek.co.jp/hdli/hdi4.JPG

Essentially, it isn't much more than a GUI for already released tools but it's nice to know there are some Japanese users paying attention to this site. ;)

Thanks for thetieger for the info.

Now there is no excuse for anyone releasing pressed versions with the "cracked" graphics. :D

They should have thrown in sjuncrunch.exe to make it more complete.

I agree with you Clement :)
and i think they could add sjuncrunch and ps2-unpacker too (if you needed to to unpack it :P)

nice tool, and it works but... It Fucks it up. now on the game list i wanted it to say "Choose A Mutha Fuckin Game" it says "Choose A Mutha Fuckin Gamedown" and in the programe it only says "Choose A Mutha Fuckin Game" it is like this on quite a lot, also make sure you stick to the right lenghts, this may have been my problem, i think the authur should add this to make it complete

Try adding some spaces to see if it gets rid of the "down."

McScruff

not just that, it does it in most places, i think they need limits

It tells you the limits.

Game List can be changed to anything up to 15 chatacters. Note the "[15]" next to it.

Whats up the the "???" in the middle of the long text messages? marks a return or somthing?

when editting strings every thing moves is not center and if your Ps2 is set in another language everything goes back to english

No more hex editing then, nice. Using this with the "Batch" thing makes it all so easy now. Don´t know how to say Thanks in Japanese, but I will try anyway... hyyuutkjiingsoonn :-)

this may be stupid of me, not being able to run a simple GUI ... but when I change everything that I want to change, and I click save, it generates my output save file, buts its 0kb in size!!

I loaded the default HDLoader.ELF name (which is the name of the default HDloader.ELF name in same directory)

I choose ScubasHDloader.elf as the output, hit save .... and I get an ELF file with 0KB ... why is this?? ...

BTW I am using the unpacked version of HDLoader.elf....

Not sure. I just did my initial test by changing a couple of trivial things and running it on the 659KB packed elf. It outputted a 641KB file so it seemed to work. Later I will actually choose my BMP images and try it for real.

Ok, I used this tool to customize the text, but it wouldn't change my images. So I ended up using BMPINTOELF in DOS mode and done it manually. After that I loaded the ELF with PS2Menu-K and it worked great. My text was perfect, my new graphics looked good, etc.

Then I tried to use my new custom ELF with the modified BOOT.ELF from Ownz (which I have done before with HDL.ELF by simply renaming it to HDA.ELF and compiling them into an X-Port save file exploit) but it fails to load. I just get a black screen. I even tried my original HDL.ELF again with the BOOT.ELF and it still works, but just not my custom ELF. Anyone know why? :banghead:

[EDIT]
Ok, I figured out how to get it to work. First of all, the only thing I could get this program to do CORRECTLY was change the text in HDLoader. But a long story short, I took the CustomHDLoader.ELF that HdlCngV6 created (428KB), used ps2-unpacker to unpack the file (2908KB), then ps2-packer to repack it again (506KB). Now it works with the modified BOOT.ELF exploit. :headbang:

So in other words, nice tool, but it needs some more work.

BTW - If anyone wants me to compile a guide with pics on how to do all of this to have a customized HDLoader/HDAdvance that direct-boots using an X-Port save file, let me know. Otherwise I'm not going to do it for nothing. :badpc:

I want your tutorial on how you did it .... I dont need to no how to boot it ... just how to get the HDlCfg part to work .... I know it seems simple, and the prog tells me it works but I get a 0kb file outputted ....

so tell what you used to unpack the hdloader (I used SJUNCRCH)

tell what you did first after you unpacked the loader, did you run the hdlcng first and then the bmpintoelf , or vice versa .....

Ive successfully changed my splash and main screens, and am currently using it ..... I just dont know how this hdlcfg works to change the text commands ...

man, using HdlCng is a child's play.
Here's a complete tutorial :
1. Decompress the ELF :
from the first .elf that reached the net with the ps2ownz stuff. Use SJUNCRUNCH to decompress it.
2.Rename the decompressed elf : HDLoader.ELF and place it in the HdlCng folder
3.Launch HdlCng, if you want to change the pictures, just place your modified Title.BMP and Menu.BMP in the HdkCng folder.
4. To enable text modification, press the "On" button on the HdlCng "Strings" part.
5. Modify what you want on the right windows.
6. Change every "??" to a return ("go to line").
So for exemple : ps2????rocks??my day would become :
ps2

rocks
my day
7. When you're done, just press the START button at the bottom.
It will do its stuff for a short while, 40 seconds, and poof, there you go, the elf is there, already compressed and ready to use.
Any questions?

Alcahest

Thats exactly what I did ... except I didnt use any ?? returns ... but I didnt have any lines that long to do so anyway ...

Seems easy enought doesnt it .... I was sure that I was using it correctly, but for some fucked up reason .... I keep getting this 0kb elf file outputted .... oh well ... might be my PC settings somewhere ... gonna try it on my laptop now ....

i've played with it a little bit and haven't had any problems, maybe you should try the "Unpacked HDLoader" file, the .elf that is already unpacked, maybe that will help, it's worth a try......

It doesn't work for me. When I load the ELF it still has the same Ownz FREE HDLoader screens. But using bmpintoelf replaces them fine, using the same byte locations.

Also, when it auto compresses the custom ELF it doesn't work with the direct-boot method.

The text comes out fine, but that's all. But screw it, I got it to work. :nana:

You should be able to change colors and move the boxes too and this would be great.
