I have a network adaptor with version 2.5 of the Network Adaptor setup disc. When I try to configure the settings, it tests it and tries to go through DNAS authentication and fails. I get error -881 and called Sony technical support. Their fix was to "send the console in for optimized tuning." However they said if I had modified the console in any way, they would not be able to help me. They said it was not an issue I could resolve myself.

Can anyone help me? Or will an older version of the start-up disc at least help me to create a settings file?

Is your PS2 Chipped? If yes, turn off the chip before running the Startup Disk. Or you could set up your network setting using a game like Madden 2005 who let you set it up trough the game.

No, just flip top, no modchip. Don't got Madden either.

I believe -881 is caused by an invalid console ID, did you run any weird DNAS hack apps or anything?

Nope. Never ran any DNAS hack nor have I played any online games that were DNAS enabled.
