12volt source on a SCPH5004 needed

I've done that to about every version except the 9/10's, soldered right to the green side of the psu, just had to take the chasis out of the case, solder it up, and put it back. to get your polarity, use a 12v light and touch one end to ground (the whole ring around the board where the matal chasis screws into it is always ground) then when you find +, it lights.

i know this will sound daft, an you will probably laff at me, but will the ps2 need to be on, cus i have had bad experiances with touching power supplys in the past,
