Has anyone tried putting heat sinks on any of the hotter chips on the PS2 board? if so which ones cause i've got a big tube of artic silver and a few copper heat sinks that are just collecting dust.

I would have to strongly suggest to not put a heatsink on the processor, just cause first of all theres not much room, second of all, you might crush the proccessor, and not knowing much about it, it might even hinder cooling. Third and most importantly, there is NO REASON to put a heatsink on your PS2. The case fan cools well enough, and never has there been a case of a PS2 processor getting too hott. Theres no way to OC, and even if you could, it wouldn't help. I know people love to increase cooling, but its totally not necessary.

There's alleady two huge heat plates on, wont do any good to cut those up. Overheating isnt really an issue with the PS2. The LA chip also wouldent benifit from dissipating heat, its an issue with too much power supplied that causes it to go out.

Best thing is to keep your console clean and free of dust. An upgraded fan would be cool to see done. Just using a silent 12v fan would circulate more air and not make it sound like a tornado.

With people putting in large 120gb+ hd with 8mb cache into their ps2's, I would see the need for replacing the fan with a better one, the stock is a little too weak for my tastes. Im going to order this fan (http://www.stsi.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?page=STSI_4/PROD/Panasonic/FBA06T12H) and see if I can put it to good use.

with no 3rd pin, the regulator, it would run just as fast as the stock fan.

you need an eternal fan controller like what i have.

also it is possible to overclock, just that i dont know how. Someone on teh dms3 forum was tell me i should do it because i have the necessary cooling.

You can re-route the power on that 12v fan to the 12v source on the power supply and it will be at full when ever the PS2 power switch is turned on.
