I Have recently replaced my ps2 v5 with magic3 modded chip laserhead (i Asked a Guy that usually does this kind of job to severall persons, so he does have some experience in the field, at least i know him long time in this area everyone goes there) What Happen? Well after 3 Weeks some of my games stop booting, don´t know why this never happened before except when my laser was dying but everything was running well my ps2 was booting everything cdrs, dvdrs everything then suddenly only some dvds works some others don´t boot at all. I thought probably the disc got wrecked but i got spiderman 2 2 days ago and it worked perfectly , 2 days after not anymore i tried to boot it many times and no sucess. after 3 hours i switched on my ps2 and after 3 boots i got it working.I thought it´s the chip is going byebye but it´s not cause it boots other games everytime but some others don´t anymore for how hard i try. Can you give me suggestions what might be the cause. The person that did the job offered to help but he said sometimes when a laserhead is replaced it might not read all the media. What do you think? :banghead:  :badpc: :fencing:

the catch is cdrs always play them fine, dvdrs sometimes need 3 or 4 resets to boot and there are some dvdr that don´t even boot. Thanks for your reply anyway

did you examine the posts I left links to? well heres the skivvy: take off your top cover (careful to flip the cover over l to r looking at it, keeping the switch end as close as you can, as not to tug the ribbon to the switch, which you pry up from the inside of the cover) and the drivebay cover that has the spinner in it, now either remove the drivetray (2 tiny machine screws on the left) or do how I do, plug it all back in, and press eject to just open the tray, then turn off the psu switch so it stays open. One screw holds the left rail at the rear, then filp the lazer upside down over, leave the ribbon to the lazer on, just flip it over, so that the ribbon is on the bottom, or down as you see it, and see the 2 pots, like cross head screws, those are mini volume knobs for the lazers. Looking at it as I described, the one on the left is the DVD, and the right is the CD. Gently and only slightly turn the one on the LEFT a tiny bit at a time, if it needs more (test it as is, open, dont need the tray in, jsut that white spinner magnet) CLOCKWISE, if you have an ohm meter, check between the 2 points on the bottom of those , left one no less than 600 ohms (less ohms=more voltage) and the right, or cd pot, no less than 800 ohms, if you can test it. This process takes me 10 minutes to screws back in, and back in business.

P.S.: It's said that cranking up the lazer burns the diode out quicker, which it does, actually, but I usually give the 6 months of crappy-skippy freezies aint as good as 3 months of working great, but the thing here is that re-reading like yours is doing is 10 times as bad for the focusing coils as more power diode voltage is for the diodes, and the focusing coils will take down your BA5815FM when they go, new ps2 time. Turn up the dvd pot a tiny bit, just enough so that it reads correctly.

your welcome, and b.t.w, by doing that, you are squeezing the last life out of that lazer unit, they simply don't last, all ps2's burn out lazers, and you will soon need a new one, heres the cheapest source I know of, this is where I buy mine.

yes those people are good they are the only people i'd buy from ebay. most of the other laser sellers on ebay are frauds selling refurbished and such.

http://www.richspsxparts.com/ is in usa lasers for 50
