well... in that pic, he's soldering it to the point on the bottom of the HDD activity light that's already present on the front of the network connector so he's just basicly extending the light.

I think for the PS2 it's adding one all togehter.

I've done a few USB jump drive mods, and a few HD mods, but I'm not sure how all the pins in a cat 5 cable work. I would immagine there's one that's a Data+ wire. (Wich is basicaly like a USB device or a HD) You wanna tap that as your feed, and then just hook the ground up to a ground point. it should flicker as data comes through.

That's just a theoy though. I'll have o go look up a network connection anatomy somewhere to give you a definate answer.

there are 8 wires total... data send + -
data receive + -
then the other 4 wires are unused... but they are still requiered to satisfy the spec

The link signal (for LED's) on normal network adapters (talking PC PCI cards here) are connected to a signal from the MAC chip--not simply powered off the CAT cable. Someone would need to disassemble their NA and *carefully* probe the controller chip in the NA whilst plugging and unplugging the network cable to see if any of the pins change state when the cable is inserted/removed.

If there is a pin that goes high (+5v or +3v) when the network cable is connected, that would be a perfect link indicator signal source.

on the cat5e cable according the site above, wires 3&6 should be data + and -.

Do not put an LED on the pins of your network cable! You will destroy either your network adapter, or your hub, or both!

It just doesn't work like that. Sorry!

You'll need to see if there's an activity pin on the network IC.

so what do we do? to make it work?

You might want to get in touch with someone who bought the Linux Kit as it included a Network Adaptor without a modem but with Activity and Link lights. I am pretty sure that they have the wiring already in the adaptor just without any LEDs attached (the US Network/Modem Adaptor).

sony didn't make their own network adapter. it's probably an intel/realtek chip on board, which means the chip will support activity lights. i haven't ripped apart my network adapater as my hd plugged straight into it with no problems. anyone know what is written on the IC inside the na? then you could try and compare it to a computer network adapter, and find how the IC turns the LED on when there is activity.

Click on the PS2 section and scroll down. He killed his NA when he did it tho

Its somewhere on the main board, I havn't taken apart my PS2 so I'm not sure where. It would look way better if it were white, then you would have a nice arrangement of color on the PS2 (green power, blue cd, white hdd).

I thought the light was in the network adaptor and not on the ps2 mainboard that is why I thought you only saw it when the network adaptor was attached and being used and why you only see it in the vents where the network adaptor is installed

I found that http://www.ledtronics.com/ds/PCB1185/ peraphs there's infos, and in the end you have this http://www.ledtronics.com/product_news/pd_article_053101.htm.

I would greatly apreciate that someone translate this and give us exactly where to put the wires! :P or peraphs I will buy one of this 2x5mm Rectangular Diffused
