Hello all,
i will mod my ps2 in a few days and i thought about it.
Why shouldn't we make a theard about ps2 modding like:
What a led can i use? 3mm or 5mm?
How do i install the power for the led?
What extras can i use?
Where should i be carefull on doing this?
Lets make a good and big tutorial :headbang:

Any. A LED is a LED is a LED. Some justare brighter than others.
How do i install the power for the led?
Look around for a 5 volt soldering point. that's going to run to the resistor on the long leg of your LED. (The only 5 Volt I'vefound so far is on the bottom of the HD, But I haven't really looked)
What extras can i use?
What do you mean extras?
Where should i be carefull on doing this?
On soldering over the board, You DON'T wanna drips solder in it.trust me.

(i mean that thing that make your like blink on musik ^^)
but thanks for the info, but i am really intersted now where a v5 could be?

here is a guide I made to do this
http://www.ps2-scene.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=3652
I got the light kit from the guy that everyone knows ;)
I painted and installed the kit myself.
He cut out the lettering for me
more picture info 4th post down here
http://www.ps2-scene.org/forums/showthread.php?t=22933
Supplies used to build it
1. Sony Playstation 2
2. Fine Sand paper
3. 1 Can of Primer
4. 3 Cans of Fleckstone glossy stone paint
5. 1 Triple thick gloss coating
6. Jig saw, dremmel, or similar cutting device
7. Thin 2.5 X 6 in piece of plastic
8. Electoluminescent Light (EL) kit with switch
9. 15 watt soldering iron
10. Multimeter
11. Fine solder
12. Glue gun
13. Electrical tape
Procedure
Step 1 Purchased and (EL) light kit from someone and he also cut out the letters and hole for the switch on the ps2 case for me.
Step 2 Disassemble the case and remove the cd tray cover (4 screws 2 more to take tray out and one screw holding the front of the tray on and removed Sony emblem with a knife and covered up the USB ports. Also one screw in tray cover holding emblem in place
Step 3 Sanded down the top of the ps2 case to smooth out some of the rough spots (found out that since I had plastic primer this wasn?t necessary)
Step 3 Applied 3 coats of primer even at a distance of about 1.5 ft away I waited 1 day between each coat
Step 4 Repeated the 3 coat process with the flexstone paint
Step 5 Repeated the 3 coat process with the triple thick gloss.
Step 6 Attached the wires from the el-wire to the 12V PSU withI used a multimeter to find the 12V+ and ground (on the bottom of the power supply unit esp look at the 4 big prongs) and routed the wires via fan grill to the top of the case.
Step 7. I glued the switch to the side of the top part of the case that connects to the a hole in the side of the case for the switch. ( put about a dime sized portion of glue to make it stick)
Step 8. Ran the rest of the wire along the back top portion of the case and covered then in electrical tape
Step 9. Reassembled the PS2.
The light can be set to on/off/blink

Ok what parts do you consider the difficult parts

a pic of the power v11 would be nice...i am not sure which it is and do you maybe know where on the ps2 baord is a v5?

This is from Ben's site I dont have a digital camera
You have to give him credit for this picture
For 5v you have to use a mobo point I have to go back and look at a modchip diagram for 5V

poorly lit pic of a diffrent mobo. the 12 volt and ground are in just about the same places. Some of the other soldering points have moved around them which may make this confusing but here's the pic.

Yep that is why I put test with a multimeter to know for certain in the tutorial

china-magic.com has 5v point for the magic 2 and magic 3.1 chips (ps2 versions 1-8) *note the magic V uses 3.3v so you cant go buy those pictures
You can also probe different points on the board by sticking one point to ground and just probing around to find a 5v point also set meter to volts

Would this light work in your ps2 just for glow?
Cold Cathode 1 Tube Kit Blue
·Adds Style to any PC with a transparent window
·Low heat output and Low energy consumption
·Comprehensive instruction manual
·Easy installation by connecting directly into power supply
This Cold Cathode Blue Fluorescent Lamp is designed to used in conjunction with a transparent side panel or window kit to iluminate the inside of your computer case. Unlike neon, our cold cathode kits were created exclusively for use in Personal Computers and other hiome appliances, they consume much less power and the 100% acrylic casing allows an even distribution of light.
Our CCFL kit surpass other products due to a number of factors
1. A second CCFL can be added easily by connecting color cathode lamp into the same inverter
2. Removable inverter cover: it make you easy to add second cathode lamp and change the location of inverter from side of case to top of case
3. Colour acrylic casing to prevent damage
Each kit includes
·A cold Cathode tube with both wires coming out one end of the protective acrylic tube (important feature)
·Twin connector invertor
·Additional female molex power connector
·Round ON/OFFf switch
·Extension cable
·Comprehensive instruction manual.

That would work fine but if you want to use your HD that would probably get in the way. (If you dont have a hard drive then that probably wouldnt bot6her you though
If you use an EL (Electroluminescent) strip then you can still stick in a hd without any problem

EL wire looks damn cool, when you can directly see it, but I wouldn't use it to light something up. If you want to light something up, use cold cathodes or LEDs. To power cold cathode is similar to LEDs, although with cold cathodes you can buy the inverter and tap into the molex power from the HD. You can also just power the cold cathode by finding out its voltage, running a line fromt the PSU and using the right inverters to get the right voltage. Good stuff.

The kit I bought was a 12V kit and I soldered it on the bottom of the power supply
You need a chaser LED kit for the knight rider effect it has a chip that tells the leds when to come on in a sequence

can i put a laser led and el strip and a another fan in the ps2 or would this be to much power!
ps2daddy
07-22-2004, 06:51 AM
I am not for sure on that but the el strip wont generate excessive heat also (led shouldnt make much of a heating difference either) so you probably wont need an extra fan

I would like to put a fan that glows up in it even if it means disconnecting the ps2 one
just to make it look flash Lol :)
