is this possible? here is my situation
i got a PS2 v9 w/DMS3 v2.0 1.6 firmware but the LASER is dead... i have HD Explorer installed... what i want to be able to do is install HD Loader on the memory card so I could see it as a list... i have the HD Loader DMS Dev1 version but I need to install it via network... is there any tools i can use w/o using the PS2 CD/DVD Drive?
once i have HD Loader on the DMS Explorer, i could use my friends PS2 to install the games on the HDD
any suggestions? :cry:

Hmm... I don't guess your friend's lucky enough to have a modded PS2? Is he any good at swap tricks? (I've NEVER been able to get the knife trick to work.) Here's what I'd recommend, if you can get a homemade CD to boot on his system.
Make a CD that contains the following files:
SYSTEM.CNF, PS2MENU.ELF, HDLOADER.ELF
To make a SYSTEM.CNF, open notepad and type this up:
BOOT2 = cdrom0:\PS2MENU.ELF;1
VER = 1.00
VMODE = NTSC
Adam and Tom's PS2MENU.ELF is available here:
http://ps2dev.org/files/ps2menu.zip
HDLOADER.ELF may be called something else. You should try one of the two here:

I don't have DMS, so I'm not sure which'd work best.
When you boot the disc, PS2MENU will boot up. Press R1, and you'll get a menu to browse the HDD, CD, or MC on the PS2. Select CDFS to browse the CD, and run HDLOADER. This'll format your HD for use with the HD Loader, and also create a 128MB partition for HDLoader settings.
Now, boot up the PS2 with that CD you made one more time. Up comes PS2MENU. Press R1, and select PFS0. (this is your HDD). Press L1 to cycle through your partitions, until you see one called HDLoader Settings. It should have a couple files in there already.
Now, with ". (dir)" highlighted, press Triangle. That'll mark this partition as the "copy to" directory.
Press R1, and select CDFS to browse your CD again. Highlight your HDLOADER.ELF, and hit Triangle. It'll copy the ELF to the HD Loader Settings partition, which can be read by DMS explorer just fine (unlike the other partitions HDLOADER creates).
Hope this helps!

thanks for the PS2Menu idea... i would need to install HD Loader in the MC since my DMS3 has v1.6 firmware on it... it doesn't have the option of booting straight into HDD
if i could somehow run the 2.2 firmware update ELF file...
anyways, r u telling me that if i could run PS2Menu on my friends modded PS2 using my MC and HDD, i could copy and paste files from CD -> MC?

Definitely. PS2MENU allows you to copy from CD to MC or HDD, and also back and forth between the HDD and MC. You can even work with the individual files in your memory card directories. (For instance, I use it to change the BOOT.ELF in my BADATA exploit.)
Oh, also, if you can get PUKKLINK to run on your PS2
http://ps2dev.org/kb.x?T=906
and run something like INLINK on your PC
http://inpulse.planet-d.net/toolz.php
You can run the PS2MENU.ELF file over the network. The benefit here is, not only will you be able to copy back and forth between your CD, HDD, and MC, but also HOST! So you'll be able to copy stuff to your MC or HDD directly through your network connection.
For some reason, the HDLOADER.ELF (I'm using the 658KB version xaiNiax posted a long time ago, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to repost it here) doesn't want to boot off of my memory card directly, but you might have more luck since you're using DMS3. If it doesn't, use PS2MENU to open HDLOADER.ELF. That works every time, for some reason.
If you have a ps2 disc in the drive, the 700kb version should boot fine.

dude this rocks! i got HD laoder to format my HD, install the HDloader.elf to my HD, run hdloader, and copy a game to it. i copied splinter cell 2 pandora tomorrow to it. but when i go to run pandora off teh HD in hdloader, i just get a black screen... i dunno whats wrong unless its just not compatible with HDloader... thats the only real game i have now. rest are out my brothers house. and HDloader wont copy a backup to the HD, it is possible to make it copy a backup to the HD??
you might try copying ps2menu-k & the hdloader elf to your MC.. and then booting ps2menu-k, then boot the hdloder elf.. if that doesnt work, you could try using the 0wnz boot.elf file, rename your hdloader elf HDA.ELF and seeing if it will boot..
