Is there a FFXI beta or US HDD tool patch for non-sony drives avail. I thought I came accross one but not sure where I seen it, I think it was for the beta.

A patch I dont see but manual modification in Hex yes ! I will search about that !

I have the beta image, the only thing is that it doesnt do any good. It installs the sotware, but stops at the dvd driver upgrade. Even then, unless you have a dms...you still can't see your hdd in the browser.

The "Beta" image is not really a beta ... What was beta was the FFXI game. The HDD UItility disc wasn't beta, just is outdated (2001, when the HDD was originally planned to ship)
The newer disc only have a newer DVD driver and revised boot up code. And it will only work if you own a Sony HDD or a DMS3 with HDD compatible firmware. (It worked for me when I was using my HDD on my US PS2)

any way to get it running on a pal ps2? (dms3) all i get is a black screen, maybe someone could knock up a region patch for it like bbnav...

Did you turn on ATAD patching and disabled the MM16 thing?

Yeah, without atad patching it just jumps back to the browser after spinning the hdd, mm16 is off. Maybe my hdd is too full, or i need to install the utility disk first and then hddloader and the rest...

Here is the patch. This is for the FFXI HDD Utility 1.0 beta. I got it a while back and found it in my download folder. Just patch the .bin file using ppf-o-matic. I have a DMS3 and my 10GB hdd shows up in the browser after selecting "Install HDD Software".

of course it worked for you lilkiller. You have a dms chip...right now those of you that have that chip can use that program if you choose. Us other mods suck @$$!! I ordered a DMS last week. Should be here this week sometime.

I think there's a region check (i have a dms3), either i'll have to wait for the ps2nfo region hack or maybe someone can find another way...
