I came across this website tonight at work and I am like "whatever" because I thought the PS2's security was written to the very most outer ring of the disc just like the PS1 which can't be copied! I am sure this doesn't work since if it did there would be no need for PS2 modchips and it would be all over the forums but just for that very slight chance this has escaped the masses I was wondering if this procedure really works. I might download CDRwin and try it later tonight when I get home but that isn't for about 6 more hours so if anyone has the info now that would be great.

That website it's only showing you how to make a succesful backup of your PlayStation 2 game and yes there are ways of playing backups without a modchip. There is the Knife Trick and the Flip-Top Covers w/ the Swap Magic Discs.

Yeah I know about those ways but this article was saying you just burn and play, no modchip. That is why I am confused, he never said "... but you must use the knife trick!" He just makes it sound like you copy and play!

Yeah, those are very cool system to boot back up games.

Flip Top:
Insert boot CD, remove it, insert copy and boot.... oh wait, didn't boot.
Insert CD, remove it, insert copy and boot... DAMN!
Insert CD, remove it, insert copy and boot... WTF!!!
Insert CD, remove it, insert copy and boot.........

Knife Trick:
Like above except that sometime during the operation you will hear a nasty "crack" meaning that you just fucked up your PS2 drive.

Nevertheless both of them are very kool systems... :moon:

dont be misled by these people, in all actuality, no-mod actually works fine, best when used with a dvd-r burner. let me explain.

first off if you have a newer model ps2 (v7 and later) you need the swap magic. if you have v6 and below, youll need a gameshark2. second thing you need, is an auto-eject chip like the lusifer mod or so i hear.

the first thing you want to do after obtaining all of these is to make a cogswaploader exploit disc. try finding a PS1 game w/ the highest TOC possible. (631+mb is sufficient) after a ps1 game is prepped and your MC is prepped, the usage is very straightforward.

for ps2 cds:

providing that you have a ps1 toc w/ 631+mb or higher, you will be able to boot any PS2 cd out there. just auto-eject, swap w/ backup and press X to play. PAINLESS

for ps2 dvds:

load your cogswaploader and normal eject the tray, insert a high TOC game (most preferably DMC as its the cheapest and highest toc possible) when it reads ps2dvdrom, press X and then auto-eject and replace w/ dvd-r. press X to load the game. REQUIRES LITTLE TO NO EFFORT AND LOADS ANY NORMAL DVD-5 GAME

as you can see, people are bullshittin you when they tell you this stuff is so crappy and non-reliable. in all actuality it works fine, just takes some effort to swap some cd/dvds. although i suggest the route of chips like everyone else (who can beat magic V at 20 bucks?) no-mod is definitely possible.

yea, swapping really blows...At first you'll be happy, and be like YEA! I'm playing ps2 backups by just using Swap Magic. After a few months though you'll be like IM TIRED OF THIS SHIT!

No solder mod + fliptop + swap magic discs = more than a Duo mod installed.

No one here is telling that "no-mods" is not possible.
What we are telling is that "no-mods" is not a flexible system at all

Sorry I can't because I don't believe in swapping at all. What I am saying is that a Duo modchip is cheaper costwise to you the consumer installed than it would be to buy all those parts. Also in the long run, it's cheaper because all you have to do is power on your unit, insert game and play. No swapping, no need to worry about TOC size, etc. And I am not just saying it because I sell them. I am saying it because I used to swap but got real tired of it.

Agree with precisionmods and Chip&Chop on this. Swap disks are not the final solution for PS2. (no matter what "ownz" talks, hehe) Let's not talk about when the boot disks and the originals get damaged or scratched, to get them again will cost a lot. All in all, the cost and the limitations of the swap methods are much worse than getting a decent mod and get it installed. How many swap disks are out there ? Million versions, one does not start that, while the other does not start some other games, phew it just makes me tired to play with things like that.

regards, Stephen

Still remember the Neo 2.2 with AR, but I can't say that I am that happy when that is on my mind, he he. Put one disk in, boot, swap, and others with Messiah1 played through two levels while I realized that the game finally started for the 10th start...

Ok, if I wanted to go with a soldered chip how much would it cost for someone to do it for me (them supplying the chip and the installation). I have a v7 390001 model.

Will it all depends on what kind of chip you want. If you want a direct boot chip then there are a few out there for you to pick. You can either go with the dms3,messiah 2,smartchip,magic v chip, If you want to play mp3 and all those stuff then get a dms3. If you have the $$ then i would go with the dms3. For the cost? hmm you have to look around here, some ppl charge different and may cut you a deal or something........
