I'm obviously new to mem card cracking, what methods are there, is this only acheivable via usb cable or is there other methods out there like over a networked ps2 > pc on a chipped console ?
just would like to know my options before i run out and buy a cable :)
thanks

If you own the PS2 Broadbandadapter and if you can boot backups (if you can't use the independence day exploit way), then you could use the combination of three tools: nport/Pukklink/Inlink.
Sounds difficult, but believe me it's easy:
Download the following:
Nport: http://wire.napalm-x.com/
Pukklink: http://ps2dev.org/kb/kb.asp?T=863
Inlink: http://inpulse.kicks-ass.org/
1.) Extract the files from the Pukklink archive and edit IPs within IPCONFIG.DAT using your fav. text editor.
PS2 IP Subnetmask PC IP
192.168.0.10 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.1
2. ) Start a new Nero Data Disc Project (Mode2/XA) drag the just extracted pukklink stuff together with some additional 10MB data (anything will do) and burn it. Then boot it up in you PS2, with the connected Broadband Adapter connected to your Network/PC
3.) Install Inlink (rightclick on the extracted .msi file) and start it.
4.) Extract the Nport archive to a directory of your choice and use the "Run" Option of Inlink to execute it.
5.) Look on your TV, you will see the Nport GUI, which allows you to move Savegames between PS2 and the Nport\saves Directory on your PC.

hey jweck ! thanks a lot for all that info , really didnt expect such a comprehensive reply, will try that when i get home.
been looking into this independence exploit, i really fail to see how it really benefits people with mod-chips, shed any light on that ?
Thanks again.

Well the exploit is only of interest to people who don't own a modchip. It allows them to execute code like the PS2reality Mediaplayer or others, but it won't allow them to boot backups ;)
Which ELFs fail ? some need some trash files on there in order to make the ISO big enough.
all the best,

ok, now i wanna upload some savegames i got from gamefaqs.
nPort.elf executes fine, can list the saves on my memory card.
I do not, however, see any files listed under host, i do have a saves folder.
I then attempted to backup one of my saves from my card, which it hung on, and InLink timed-out pretty soon there-after. The .npo i'd asked it to download is in my saves folder :/
I rebooted, expecting to see the .npo in the file list for host, but nope, still nothing :(
Also, the save file i downloaded was not an .npo, help ? :(

Sure mate, register at www.ps2savetools.com and download the Save Slicer 1.3 Beta Tool from the Member Area, it enables you to convert between .npo Gameshark and Xport files with ease.
BTW thanks to Gothi for that ;)
Then get the Index Patcher for Nport, found also there somewhere in the Tools\Download section.
Just save it in your nport Saves Directory and execute it each time you delete or add a file to the directory to update the index file.

I'm running XP home on a wi-fi laptop, would that make any difference ?
