Lik-Sang Product Alert

PS2 no swap Magic Chip 2 for V5 3000x-R and V7 3900x models

Tue Jul 9 2002 19:36:14 Hong Kong Time - PlayStation2

After successful tests, we have stocked the so called Magic Chip 2, a no-swap modchip working very similar just like the famous Messiah chip.

In stock for immediate shipping is the Magic Chip 2 for V5 (3000x-R) boards, supporting PAL/USA/ASIAN machines. This becomes the first USA V5 compatible no swap chip. Anyone who placed a preorder for the USA Messiah chip and likes to substitute the chip for this one can send us an e-mail, both chips are priced the same.

Expected to arrive in the next week will be the Magic Chip 2 for V7 (3900x) boards which became available just recently in the US and Australia.

They were obviously waiting for my test report! We looked at the Magic 2 signal behaviour, thus:

1/
SCEx sits at 3.3v and pulses to 0v twice whilst the electrons are flying with disk in

2/
sits at 3.3v and pulses to 0v following the RESET button

[b]3/
A is a strobe telling B-I to "sample now"

4/
R is a strobe telling M-V to "sample now"

5/
W goes low on RESET in two stages 3.3v->1v->0v. We haven't worked out what W does.
