I am new at this, but I wanted to find out if there is an easy way to transfer a file from my PC to my PS2 without going out and spending $30 on a cable I might use once?

If there is a low cost way to do this, I would like assistance. I have a file, think it has a sharkport extension, on my PC that I would like to transfer to my PS2. I can get my hands on a USB to USB cable for cheap ($1). Not sure what to do next.

Any advise??

Thanks.

You probably wont find the cable under 20$, so you might as well buy sharkport because it has extras, Its a special USB cable not just any regular cable.

can you be more specific? What does this cable have that the others don't? Will it vacuum my house? :D

Forget about all that the easiest and safest way is to use Nport and Inlink .. just look here and Translate it with the Fish (babelfish.altavista.com) you will be amazed how easy it is

I have to use 2 different cables, the Sharkport uses a Datel "X-Link", and I use the 2301 for Naplink, ect, and they are'nt cross compatible. I tried.
And transfering without a cable is like driving without a car, I mean there just is'nt anything else that can acces the usb port, except a usb cable. You can try tapping the codes on the cosole cover with your fingers, that wont help, but you wont have to buy a cable.

They are cross compatible, so long as they contain the same chipset. The only downside is that you have to change the driver each time you want to use a particular app. The driver for the Sharkport/X-port is exclusive to the app, but Naplink uses the regular driver from the Prolific manufacturer.

Just repoint the driver from your OS each time, and you can use just 1 cable. Just fair warning....the Sharkport/X-port cables do not always have a PL-2301 chipset. Naplink will only work off it.

Da Brass is correct, as usual. The Sharkport/X-port uses a pl230x chip but the driver for it is a variation off the generic chipset driver and doesnt really work with Naplink. I believe the Naplink driver may also vary somewhat from the generic prolific driver due to fixes and such. The older, single piece cable is the one with a 2301 chipset while I believe the newer one that uses A-B cables is based off the 2302 chipset. I am not sure as to how the 2302 works with Naplink.

you can use pukklink to establish a pc<>ps2 connection via the sony network adapter, but those usually cost about $40 as opposed to the $20 Sharkport/X-port

I use a 2302 cable for both and it works fine :-)
