I currently use Magic chipII for my PSII SCPH 30001 R, it works great, no swap method required both for CD or DVD, the only problem is........I can't use my GS codes, since I have to reset every times I boot a game, since I have a Sbox key and a Pnp non solder modchip, I wonder whether a combo or "trick" could enable me to use codes on dvdr or cdr

What? It makes no sense. Which one is it? You're saying you got a Magic 2 Chip machine and then you have a Sbox? Which is is?
Or do you have 2 PS2?

Assuming you've only got the Magic 2 in you PS2, then just selecting With Codes, using the EJECT button and X all under GS2 control should allow you to enter codes.

I'll try it later today with AR2 on the PAL v5 with Magic 2.

Last night I succeded in using GS codes for my dvdr game excalibur, but only once, I used combo sbox+magic II, and when I tried it again it won't work

All I can say is that AR2/2 with codes works in my Magic 2 v5 PS2. No other chips to cloud the issue.

my gs ver. is 1.97, after I use the combo and now I can't get A PS2 CDR TO WORK WITH MY PS2 , BUT THE DVDR WORKS FINE, I'M VERY DESPERATE.......

Coming back to your original question, what is the relevance of RESET to the GS with codes problem? there is no reset required in the GS2 with codes process.

Pale Skin
07-14-2002, 04:28 AM
yes, but the reset is required to boot a dvdr game with the magic II chip, so if I must use the reset button each time I boot a game, how could I use the codes, the normal procedures to use gs codes, only gives me a freeze while in the loading GS screen, the dvd r won't boot without first activating the reset button, and for now I can't get my ps2 cdr to work...., more problem, I wonder where can I contact this magic II creator

From the info you've provided I think the problem may lie with your boot method. I have a Magic 2 and I can boot AR2 as an original; select with codes; swap in the DVD-R having selected the codes all without performing a RESET after booting AR2. Same woud be so with GS2.

So I reckon you're doing it wrong. Exactly when do you do a RESET? Please give the exact booting sequence in detail.

Pale Skin

sequence ?
explain it charlie

me thinks charlie means:

pop in GS/AR (no reset tricks or anything) -> Select codes -> start game -> with codes -> swap with DVD-R/Silver -> and voila

yeah - Pale Skin

Describe step by step how you boot with GS2.

Can S box damaged the magic 2 chip when used altogether ?

Charlie, forgive me, but I'm still using a no-Solder--waiting for US v5 Messiahs to hit the market. From what I've read, this seems to work for most every GS2/AR/2 out there when the swap method bypasses the eject interrupt sequence.

Just curious, can the Magic 2/Messiah open the eject tray without the PS2 detecting the disc change and rescanning the boot area of the disc (like the other Swap-Mods do?) If so, he may be able to swap the disc during the "Updating Codes Screen"?

Just a thought....

The s-Box idea for taking over the GS2 part of things was at least imaginitive. Whether the S-Box is there or not, the magic 2 is in charge of the boot process so it won't help in my view. Now that statement is based on my Messiah knowledge as I'm not as sure about Magic 2 inner details - there are differences.

The only reason I can see that Magic 2 wolud fail to honour the way in which GS2 works (bypassing the PS2 eject interrupt detection) is by having an over-riding detect on Eject and allowing that to go through to the PS2. And why not? Magic 2 is a no swap chip!

So I reckonn that Mr. Magic 2 is going to have to revise his design to take this into account.

Strange thing is that my AR2 and magic 2 works with codes!

Raistlin, U may be right, I remember it now, the first time the codes worked was the time I inputted the new codes in it, and charlie, do u have any idea how to contact this mister magic II, an email address would help

I found out that all units powered up by this chip excluding the R type, work perfectly with codes, yesterday I took mine to a local store to fix it, the technician tried to balance the lens unit, and the result was it can boot with codes, but only for certain games like MGS2 and Dark Cloud, others didn't work, and this "result" only last for 1 day, I wonder why, and I'm thinking 'bout changing to another cheat device, or maybe upgrading my gs, anyone knew where to get an upgrade disc image ? my AR ver is 1.9, since my unit's type is "1c" unit, what ver of gs that might work with it

You certainly might try AR2/v2 (which is what I use with codes) but I'm not going to guarantee the result.

I think the underlying problem is to do with the "new disk" status when the disk ejection occurs. Magic 2 is engaged during this time and if it interprets the disk change as being a "new boot" (because PS2 tells it so) then it loses control and a black screen occurs. Mr. Magic 2 would need to fix this, if he so wished.

Now I've never had a black screen, I've had occasions when we thought the codes had not taken.

Hope that helps.

paleskin.. if ur gs2/ar2 is from ur region then do this
With the GS2 Inside start the ps2 holdin reset, until playstation 2 logo appears
now u can do it with cdr....
with dvdr boot as normal *w/o holding reset* then go to start game ->>> with codes, then tap eject, not hold otherwise u'll be swapping modes
try it out...pass the results...
this stuff works with blue and since magic-II is a clone it should work! :p

Pale Skin

Thank's Fooniman, I'll try it out, I have tried using ArII ver II, but it seemed that this AR2ver2 was not compatible with my machine, when main menu screen showed up, it always freeze

charlie_ps2, I can't believe you didn't tell him that people on other boards you have been to are having the same problem getting the magic 2 to work with gameshark codes but I think I may have found a solution. So far I have noticed that everyone who has goten it to work has an original copy of GS2/AR2. Also what color is your magic 2 charlie_ps2? Because mines is one of the early blue ones.

RAISTLIN

Paleskin,

You might want to get in touch with the AR2 folks. I think you can get the link to them (or at least Interact) from www.gameshark.com. They used to allow one "free" upgrade to the current GameShark version (you pay shipping). It may be the same for the AR2's, since they come from the same company.

Worth a shot!

The producer of magic II chip has verify that their chip won't work with gs codes, wow great just great, in the end we the costumers is always being a victim

Pale Skin

mjjjad, my Ar disc is blue too, is one of the early ones, sometimes the code works, sometimes it don't, what do u mean by the "original copy " ?
Raistlin, the problem is, the post service in my country is very bad, the package is often stolen by themselves, so the only way for me to upgrade mine, since I already put this damn magic chip, is to burn an upgrade disc, if I have the image files

The existing v7 chip has that point (see attachment).

The Z point on the chip is the third pad down to the right of the smaller IC.

It goes to Z on the motherboard as per Magic 2 diagrams. Later next week possibly beginning week afterwards I shall produce a definitive v7 Install Guide showing all this very clearly. Will be published on Lik-Sang store web site before coming here.

Since I don't know which Magic II chip, that was installed in my unit, and I don't know how to open my machine, can someone help me ?
The technician who installed it, only said that my chip were a gold one, is there possible that mine was the underlined one ?

I have a gold v7 that isn't underlined. I doubt you got an underlined one but you need only take the black cover off and the look at the modchip attached to the cage.

8 screws on the bottom of the PS2 under rubber feet.

LOL Perhaps . . . if you have the luxury of 40-60 hours to devote to mindless battles in RPGs just so you can raise enough money for better weapons and goods.

This old dog prefers the GS2 Platinum card whenever he enters a shop selling goods. No muss, no fuss, and accepted anywhere I may travel within the realm of the game. I don't leave home without it... :D

P.S. Sorry you're going to get an email alert on this reply, RAISTLIN... ;)
