Well, I got franken close enough to being finished to try and power it up, so I plugged in the lead switched it on and................nothing.

The power supply was a trade and it's a PAL one so the voltage isn't the problem, I'm thinking I could dive in with a multi meter and see if there is any power inside, it could be the switch that is the problem, but I don't know

if I do go inside where should I look for power?

Could be blown fuses on the motherboard too, but don't ask me where they are on a PAL machine... :)

what version is it could be an idiot diode thats popped on the primary side of the power supply this ones the main culprit on a v3 the 4 diodes are all standard 1amp also if you fuse the 2 wires together on the power switch you would get constant power try it if that is the problem it wont be hard to make a switch up hope this helps.
