Yep I just painted my PS2 yellow and I should have pictures up in a few days. I just need to get a hold of a digital cam. But what I really need is a few of the black screw plugs on the bottom of the PS2 My dog at a couple of them so now it doesn't look as sharp! So if anyone has some laying around could you let me know. Thank you

did you paint on a 3rd party case or the original case? The resell value will be very low after painting.

nathaniel_04

I painted on the original case. And who cares what the resale is I'm keeping this. Even if it breaks. or I will just buy a new case.

no offense but that could have been done a lot better if you had taken the thing apart more and actually taped stuff off well. Want some light? how 'bout this? i did this in my spare time after modding my computer http://geocities.com/ben999000/ps2mod.html

Thanks Supleh2! Ya I want to put a light in mine (blue) but not sure how to set it up. Where to plug it in?? Will the fan that the PS2 has take care of the heat??

Nice looking.

And ben999_. Did you even attempt to make straight cuts when making windows on your ps2? That thing is ghetto. You shouldn't knock other peoples art when yours looks like an art project from some kid with downs syndrome.

*cries* nooooo
Everyone has started yonking my original ideas lol.

Everyone has suddenly started modding their cases

Anyhows I have a blue neon in the HDD Bay, a window in the top half of the case, a window in the cd assembly lid, another neon on the over-ledge of the right hand side of the PS2 (the over hang bit) (got a lot more mods planned :P (just hopping I dont tell anyone or no one thinks of them before I finish them)).
I had also sprayed one of my old cases silver which looked the shiznits.

Nath, I sed original plain normal paint works didnt I, nice job ;)
(BTW, the black bit by the fan and the bit where the power plug goes in can also be taken off and sprayed if you want to, just to let you know.)

DAMN I NEED TO GET A DIGITAL CAMERA!!!!!!

Gaz - cos I got hold of it and I annoy him so he dont come on lol (or maybe he's changed it again??) ;)

nathaniel_04
10-02-2002, 01:41 PM
Hey 2 Tru CReW yes you did say normal paint would work. And I won't steal any of your ideas but I would really like to put a light on the INSIDE of my ps2 so it comes out the front vents. How would I go about doing this?? What do I attach the wires to. Any help would be great. Thanks:D

I have a 12v neon, and the 4 prongs from the PSU supply 12v, so that's where you'd get the juice.

holy shit dudes, it was just a little constructive criticism Chill Out! And for your info, the cuts are straight and that is pretty good for a dremel and a file. You guys probably dont even know what a dremel is. Now you think im dissing you guys dont you, well im not. Also, i was the first one to do that to my ps2 over at pheatonforums.com since July and dont tell me you did it before then if you dont have pics. Just so you all know, these are in no way original ideas if you happen to think that. I have also modded my computer just as legions of Case Modders who have been doing shit like this for decades. Pretty much anything you can think of has been done. Very diffictult to be original with this stuff. Also, you dont need to get a neon at pcmods.com, just go to an auto store such as Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, or Pep Boys and buy a neon. They all hook up to a 12 volt power supply because that is a car battery's voltage. So to anyone else who wants to do the same, learn from people like me and 2Tru who have done this, what to do and what not to do. The paint job doesn't look bad, it is just that you could still make it better by unclipping the dvd-rom drive front plate cover and painting that also, and the memory card covers. These can both be dismantled to be painted. The back parts that you missed can be done in the same way. These are constructive points of criticism!!

my comp crashed as I was posting this -
Bah a 12inch wont fit ANYWHERE!
U need a 6 inch or 4 inch neon. 6 inch will fit in diagonally into your HDD Bay and 4 will fit length wise. It'll come out the 'vents' if you put it in the HDD Bay.
I just ran a lead out of the back to a 12volt adapter which is plugged into the mains. Couldnt be hassled with finding a point in the PS2.
Dont worry about stealing ideas ;) Just me being awkward :D

The only size light you'll get in the PS2 (against the case on the inside) is a 4 inch light, thats has been proven by me :P (as I tried)

Cheers

Now Im gonna read bens reply :D

EDIT - I agree. I bought my two neons (2x6 inches) from a car shop around frthe corner om me (£30) and it had a car adapter on, I just took it off and put a plug on the end. Anyhows put it this way, if the PS2 has been changed different from its original form then credit to the peep who didnt :D
I set out doing this just to be different from everyone else :p lol, typical me.

I need to find out what LEDs are used for the power/reset button cos I wanna change them (leaving the eject one as it is) but cant find any info :(

and to those of you who think the magic2 is not a messiah clone, i never said that. It says magic2/messiah clone, because the magic2 came out after the messiah and the idea is stemmed from the messiah chip. They also perform the same and i can see what you are trying to say but the only difference between them is that the magic2 if for NTSC, but still the same function. Also, i have fitted a 9 inch neon in my ps2 along the vent on the inside, right along the power supply and frong part. Although some modifying was involved (removing hard drive cage, bending heatsink on PSU). But i need to get a 4incher for the heatsinks by the dvd drive.

OK, u can fit a 12inch in but I wudnt reccomend it unless you know what you are doing...... thats why I didnt do it lol ;)

And what the hell, thinking of cutting a hole under the HDD bay so the neon in the HDD bay will shine out thru the holes in there and thru the hole in the case :D
And another thing...how about adding a strobe light above the CD drive??? lol ;)

just read 2tru's reply. The LEDs are not regular ones and will be very hard to change because they are surface mount LED's, not the typical 3mm, and 5mm ones. I had opened up the reset switch to see this a long time ago.

it is a 9 inch neon. A hole, thats what the window on the bottom is for, besides I got a network adapter here in the U.S. blocking the expansion bay.
I dont think Sony wants people cutting up their ps2's especially telling people how to do it cuz it probably means more people wanting it fixed. I can here the conversation in my imagination.."I was playing with my dremel when it slipped out of my hands and made a crooked cut. Give me a new ps2 please."
Sony rep.-"um, no."

umm...ok guys all I really wanted to know is how to get a neon in my ps2 case!! We don't need to destroy each other. So let me get this straight I buy a 4" neon and the wire from that I just run into the back of the power switch of the ps2?? Is this correct?

Gazdaman
10-02-2002, 05:29 PM
you can solder it to points, on the motherboard, and/or on the power supply.

dont wire from the switch! that is 120 volts of current going into a neon, which will probably make it explode. You have to wire it from the pins that the power supply goes into from the motherboard, that will give you 12 volts and it will turn on when you turn the switch on in the back of the ps2.

does anyone know of a point where i can get either 2 or 4 volts from? i got 2 v. bright led's ill post pics wen i get around to soldering it but it will have a nice "sunset red" ambeince.

Gaz - ok lol, maybe I dont have a log and I was lying lol ;)

Nathaniel - Add me aswell if you want (goes for anyone else ;)) belchmeister_aka_birchy@hotmail.com

Fire god - I believe there is a 3.3v and a 5v point by the USB port (maybe it IS the USB port but dont think so). Sounds good, it'll look good in HDD bay :p, looking forward to seeing it.

Ben - I realised that before I just ran a line out the back for my Neons, thought about connecting it to the power switch but then realised it was an odd 240volts lol. Was gonna use an inverter and transformer with it though so it shudnt have exploded ;) (btw I dont recommend doing this even if you are using an inverter and transformer connected to your light) You'll get enough power but it'll be a veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrryyyyy high current :p Easily enough to kill ya :p

Just thinking about the shop I got my neons from, I remembered they have like a 2inch neon (mounted on a big base though) might go get that and place it on top of the metal case next to the heatsink (PAL V5 PS2 btw)

there are no 12 volt LEDs, only ones with built-in resistors. Resistors are what you would need to drop the voltage down to the right level for whatever type LED you would use.

12v? 6"...?? ummm

i rekon a 3" neon and the internals covered in tin foil and a few mirrors... just incase theres a reflection problem..

;)

lol...

thats a great idea using neon...especialy with xmas comming.
itll make last years xmas tree look an xbox...:D

anwyays the main reason i attempted to post in here was to
ask, would connectin a neon, in the future damage the psu?
or anything else for that matter??? another cool idea would be
to have an on/off (input output funciton selector  ) for the neon... and a smoke machine behind it making the floor creep in vertical mode:crazy:

6 inch fits in the HDD, has to go in diagonally.

"to have an on/off (input output funciton selector ) for the neon"

Yes but it'll have to be a different, just run the lead out the back of the PS2 and put a switch on that if you want, nto that hard *rolls eyes*

idea 1: strip out all the internals, and run your ps2 out of a shoebox. That way if u live in an unsafe neighbourhood, it won't get nicked ;)

idea 2: for that special touch, chuck a small reading lamp or torch into the shoebox.

idea 3: Cool ps2's will have a nike swoosh on the side.

;)

seriosuly though.. i'm into nitro RC cars.. and have been considering getting an airbrush for a while.. but couldn't justify the cost for the sole pupose of a single RC car.. but now.. I think i'm leaning more towards it. It's be nice to have some custimised artwork on there.. and then i can do the tv, vcr, stereo, dvd, the possibilities are endless.... until the mrs says so that is. ;)
